Menlo School’s Director of Technology provides leadership and management for the direction, coordination, integration, and implementation of technology throughout the school while fostering a culture of service, support, collaboration and innovation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Provides decisive leadership in strategically developing the short-term and long-term vision of the technology department.

  • Facilitates the process of priority setting and decision making for meaningful and effective use of technology in support of the school’s educational program.

  • Collaborates with stakeholders throughout the school community, including faculty, administrators, parents and students.

  • Stays current on new trends in technology and how they impact education. Nurtures a culture of innovation and creation that reflect cutting-edge trends in business and education. 

  • Supervises and supports a highly skilled and collaborative technology team with direct responsibility for interviewing, hiring, and training staff members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; encouraging, coaching and, when necessary, correcting team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

  • Supervises the development and implementation of administrative uses of computer technology for all major systems; receives and reviews requests for computer program development and modification; determines feasibility of requests and recommends and implements solutions for a rich learning environment and robust infrastructure.

  • Conducts ongoing evaluations to determine the effectiveness of media/technology programs. 

  • Manages the selection, purchase and distribution of equipment, courseware and related materials for the implementation of media/technology in all areas; reviews and evaluates new hardware and, prepares system specifications, prepares purchasing information, and manages site and system license agreements. 

  • Supervises and works with technical staff to plan for, design and manage all local area networking, server, telephony, email/Internet services, user access, computer installations, software and the technical and operational support of these systems. 

  • Oversees the maintenance of the electronic student records system and report card program (Blackbaud).

  • Provides guidance to technical staff enabling them to direct, monitor and assess teacher/user work requests and the work request systems. 

  • Ensures that faculty and staff receive and/or have access to the necessary training on available school technology and information systems.

  • Ensures enforcement of backup/recovery plans for all systems; development and enforcement of security standards and procedures for all systems. 

  • Manages the technology budget, contract negotiations, and technology asset procurement.

  • Reviews and regularly updates the school’s technology policies.

  • Ensures that disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in place as an integral part of the school’s technology systems.

  • Review and implement internal controls where necessary.

  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a computer technology or educational technology related major.

  • Ten years combination of education system experience and/or technology industry experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated administrative experience relating to technology and technology integration.

  • Experience with database administration, network administration/security; experience and skill with a wide range of hardware, software and cloud resources; familiarity with web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

  • Must possess a collaborative nature and be forward-thinking.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Outstanding communications skills, both verbal and written.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and a sense of humor are mandatory 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment, but there may be possible exposure to childhood diseases and illnesses.

  • Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities with average interior dust with occasional exposure to outdoor elements.

  • Exposure to a normal school environment that is usually quiet but sometimes noisy.

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a school
    employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions. Reasonable
