Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Assistant Director for Technology is a member of the central staff management team in Department of Housing and Residence Life and is responsible for the following: Housing and residence life technology, information systems, and supporting the assignments staff Supporting and working with the assignments staff throughout the year regarding various business processes and updating the housing management system database Overseeing the housing management software system and ensuring the software system is running effective and is integrated with the University’s enrollment strategies Coordinating and aligning technology software/ hardware operations with department staff Supervises the Tech Support Analyst and oversees the organization and audit of the department’s computer hardware and software systems Responsible for attending campus partner meetings related to information technology or upgrades and/or updates that may affect HRL business practices |
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities |
Graduation from a two year technical college with a major in computer science, information technology or related area and one year in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university with a major in computer science or information technology or related degree. Related information technology experience may be substituted year for year for the required education. |

Thorough knowledge of technology including information systems, programming techniques, operating systems, and the capabilities and limitations of computer and peripheral equipment Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of computer applications and documentation Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret organizational and procedural problems to determine possibilities for automation Ability to process raw data and produce reports, metrics, and provide occupancy updates to the director of housing as needed Ability to set and meet project design timetables based on user expectations, policies, and guidelines Extensive knowledge of electronic communications techniques Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form Ability to establish good working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the general public that includes but is not limited to admissions, university college, transition services, ITS and the honors college |
Preferred education, professional skills and experience |
Prior knowledge or experience in housing and residence life and understanding of the housing assignment process Prior knowledge and experience with a housing management system is a plus |
