Salary Range: Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience, combined with an excellent benefits package.  

Major Duties

General summary: Designs, develops, analyzes, and maintains customer-facing information technology systems and services for the University Libraries in a distributed computing environment.

  • Researches, implements, and maintains innovative and technology-rich spaces in the Libraries.

  • Leads the Libraries' efforts to investigate, recommend, and implement new technologies and technology-rich spaces for student and faculty use.

  • Develops and delivers educational workshops and other means to better connect faculty, staff, and students with emerging technology and build competencies.

  • Serves as the resident expert with hardware and software. Works to assess user needs with future technology, and maintains a strong connection to users.

  • Provides strategic leadership for information technology support for the department.

  • Recommends, implements, and ensures adherence to operating policies and procedures, ensuring these comply with University standards and industry best practices.

  • Leads or collaborates with other Libraries' and campus IT staff on projects to improve capabilities and services.

  • Improves staff productivity and patron experience by analyzing, documenting, managing, and assessing back-end services related to client support.

  • Serves as top-level support expert within the Libraries and works with Libraries systems administration, campus IT, and vendors to resolve problems.

  • Ensures operational continuity of 24/7 services by remaining available to respond when needed.

  • Directs, hires, and trains student employees, sets clear expectations for their work performance, provides regular feedback, and performs all supervisor (of students) duties.

  • Represents Libraries IT Services department on committees, groups, task forces, and teams.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution, or a bachelor's degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.

  • Five years' relevant experience.

  • Experience installing and maintaining hardware and software.

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be available to provide system maintenance or end-user support outside of normal business hours.  

Desired Qualifications

  • Relevant industry certification.
