Position Overview

This position directly supports Faculty, staff and students in the use of teaching and learning tools in the KU environment, including Blackboard and others. This position is responsible for the development and support of educational systems within the Mathematics department at KU, including process and delivery of key data reporting functions. This position will work collaboratively with the Educational Technology Lead, other Educational Technologists, KU IT Directors and managers, key IT staff, the Math department and other campus partners to define and meet the needs of the faculty, staff and students of the University community. The successful candidate will have a great customer service ethic, experience with data analytics, effective interpersonal and time management skills, strong leadership and listening skills, the ability to provide effective feedback in a professional manner and have a positive attitude.

This position will be a hybrid of on-site work and telework as deemed by supervisor.
 Job Description

30%

  • Provide support of Blackboard and Blackboard integrated products to faculty, staff and students through educational workshops, by phone, and in person with deskside coaching.
  • Maintain current support processes for the Math department’s LMS and data-related reporting needs.
  • Assist with collaboration between university faculty and vendor-delivered technologies.
  • Provide input and participate in project meetings related to Blackboard.
  • Develop support documentation, communications, and announcements as needed.

  • Research and pilot new technologies and tools that would benefit teaching and learning at KU.
  • Collaborate with peer universities to compare and learn new techniques.
  • Analyze and evaluate the usefulness of these new educational technologies to propose solutions.

  • Develop and maintain extensions to the academic technologies by mastering and delivering current reporting functionalities.
  • Recommend user experience enhancements for the Math department’s websites and applications.
  • Work to verify, document, report and resolve incidents and problems. Tracks, tests, and reports resolution.

  • Partner effectively with clients, other developers, and members of the university community to understand and contribute to project needs.
  • Independently initiate effective communication with peers, other campus service providers/data sources, vendors and management to assure timely well-documented results.

  • Consult with the designated IT and campus unit staff, created project plans and carries out prioritized projects related to ongoing support and service delivery, coordinating with other staff as needed.
  • Participates in IT Service management including incident and problem resolution.
  • Meets regular with IT and campus unit service teams.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/ GED and four (4) years or relevant experience OR an Associate’s degree and two (2) years relevant professional experience OR a Bachelor’s degree.
  • One year of experience in 2 or more of the following areas:
  • Supporting a learning management system (LMS) like Blackboard
  • Demonstrated experience generating reports with an application like MS Excel and informing decisions based on data analytics (can be via work history, demonstrated reports, and/or class projects)
  • Creating digital and online instructional resources or documentation
  • Demonstrated experiencing developing using a program language like Python, PHP, or JavaScript (can be via work history, demonstrated applications, and/or class projects)
  • Effective written and interpersonal communication skills as evidenced by application materials and interview process.
  • Experience working in a team environment as evidenced by application materials.
