The Technology Services Specialist reports to and works with the Director of Information Technology and the Director of Educational Technology as part of a team that provides technical support to the Saint John’s community.

The role of the Specialist is to provide Tier 1 support and referral for incoming requests via phone, walk-in, web forms, and e-mail. The Specialist is to assist in maintaining and repairing school-owned technology equipment and related systems, to oversee live streaming services, and to help end-users connect their personal devices to the school’s wireless network.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Maintenance and Repair

  • Diagnose and resolve everyday technical problems with school-owned computer and multimedia equipment, software, and peripherals

  • Troubleshoot wireless connectivity problems with devices under the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and 1:1 programs

  • Troubleshoot login issues with user accounts

  • Install software and licenses on school-owned devices

  • Perform preventative maintenance of computer labs, digital signage displays, projectors, printers, battery backup units, and other technology equipment according to established schedules and procedures

  • Replace network cables, AV cables, power cords, keyboards, mice, wall plates, lamps, toner, staples, and other consumables in classrooms, offices, and workrooms

  • Deliver and setup portable projectors and sound systems in classrooms and other gathering spaces, as needed

  • Install access points for additional wireless coverage, as needed

  • Contact school-approved vendors to arrange for outside repair of laptops, tablets, printers and other devices, as needed

Inventory

  • Use the school’s help desk ticketing system to document all work completed, to inventory devices and equipment, and to research repeat technical issues

  • Maintain spare laptops, tablets and portable projectors, and sign them out as loaner devices, as needed

  • Maintain software installation repositories

  • Record remaining life for projector lamps and filters

  • Record remaining life for printer toner, staples, and waste containers

  • Maintain a supply of network cables, HDMI and VGA cables, AV adapters, lamps, toner, staples, and other consumables

  • Trace and label data jacks and network cabling

  • Assign and affix asset labels to school-owned desktops, laptops, tablets, and other components

  • Maintain the technology workshop, printer supply closet and wiring closets, in a neat and orderly fashion

Training

  • Oversee the setup and proper operation of the school’s live streaming equipment and software

  • Help teachers and students use various educational technology software and services

  • Help teachers and students setup and implement various video conferencing equipment and software

  • Train student videographers on how to record athletic events, and assist coaches with uploading recordings to Hudl

  • Provide after-hours support by overseeing the setup and proper operation of technology and multimedia equipment at school-sponsored and rental events, as needed

Other

  • Perform other technology-related functions as directed by the Directors of Information Technology and Educational Technology

Qualifications

  • College degree in a technology or computer sciences field, or equivalent industry experience

  • Ability to triage technology-related issues in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and with minimal supervision

  • Ability to resolve software issues by downloading hotfixes and by altering system settings

  • Ability to resolve equipment issues by installing replacement components and by performing physical repairs to cables and circuits

  • Ability to work effectively with community members of all skill levels

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a Windows, Mac, and Chrome environment

  • Experience working in education preferred

  • An understanding of the school’s history and mission

  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs.
