Open Window School is a K-8 school and the only independent school on Seattle’s Eastside dedicated to meeting the needs of intellectually gifted students. Open Window School has developed a transformative vision for gifted education, in which technology and innovation will play a key role. This is a rare opportunity for a talented, forward-thinking technology leader to oversee the school’s existing technology department and implement new initiatives as the school explores bold ideas built on a firm foundation of equity and inclusivity.

Position Overview:
 

The Director of Technology will report directly to the Head of School and serve as a key member of a dynamic, forward-thinking senior leadership team. The Director will oversee and be supported by a strong ICT team, including a Data Services Manager & ICT Team Lead, Systems Administrator, and ICT Support Technician. The Director will have primary responsibility for establishing and executing vision and strategy for overall operation and support of school’s ICT infrastructure and academic technology, as well as work with leadership to create strategic and project plans, establish budgets, and work with faculty on integrating technology to support, enhance and extend learning. The technology department at Open Window School is well-resourced, well-staffed, and high functioning. However, leadership recognizes that the educational landscape is rapidly changing and the schools that will be successful require a collective mindset that embraces bold, innovative, and growth-oriented ideas. Being an integral part of the school’s growth as we explore new frontiers will be a primary challenge and opportunity for our next Director of Technology.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • K-8 Vision for Technology

  • In partnership with the leadership team and with input and participation from the faculty and staff, development and implement strategic vision for infrastructure technology, academic technology, and instructional design.

  • Ensure all areas of technology, from operations and infrastructure to instructional and integration, are aligned with the strategic vision and mission of the school.

Internal Professional Development

  • In coordination with the Division Heads and Director of Teaching & Learning, develop and implement professional development for faculty on effective and authentic technology integration in support of curriculum goals.

  • Serve as a consultant, coach and mentor in assisting and supporting faculty in developing units, projects, or other educational technology applications within their curriculum.

  • Help develop a culture of exploration, experimentation, and innovation.

Management and Supervision

  • Serve as a member of the Senior Administrative Team.

  • Oversee the entire ICT Department and directly supervise the ICT Team Lead.

  • Provide exceptional guidance and support for all Innovation & Technology Teachers and other faculty.

  • Maintain ultimate responsibility for all areas of technology operations, including academic technology integration, data services, cybersecurity, and information technology.

  • External Program Development

  • Under the direction of the Head of School, research, design, and implement initiatives to help the school expand programmatically, operationally, and financially.

  • Establish and maintain local, regional and national collaborations and partnerships to support the strategic goals of the technology department at Open Window School.

Administration, Policy, and Procedures

  • Establish and evaluate technology departmental policies, procedures, and process in areas such as: end-user support, data management, network security, compliance, hardware deployment, inventory management and capital deployment.

  • Serve as primary partner with the school’s Managed Services Provider, ensuring regular network maintenance, troubleshooting, and projects/improvements are completed in a timely and proactive manner.

  • Negotiate and manage agreements between the school and technology and service providers/vendors.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • A combination of experience managing instructional technology, curricular innovation, and major components of an organization's infrastructure technology.

  • Significant experience as a leader of people including direct supervision, project management, personnel growth, and staff training.

  • Experience working in a technology department of an educational institution. Prior classroom teaching experience a plus.

  • A passion for educational technology, information systems, instructional design, pedagogical research, professional growth, and innovative curricular ideas.

  • Excellent relational and communication skills.

  • Visionary leadership aligned with the needs of a dynamic and diverse faculty and staff.

Compensation and Benefits:
This is an exempt, administrative position, not eligible for overtime. Work schedule is generally 8 AM – 4 PM, Tuesdays until 5:00 PM for faculty meetings. Salary is competitive based upon education/training and breadth of experience.
