Director of Technology and Network Manager
Supervisor: Assistant Head of School
Oldfields School, an all-girls international boarding and day school, grades 8-12, located in Northern Baltimore County, seeks applicants for a Director of Technology and Network Manager. This is a full-time, exempt position with a tentative July 2021 start date. The Director of Technology will serve as the Network Manager and will engineer, implement, monitor, maintain, and administer computer, server, and network infrastructure across the Oldfields campus. The Director of Technology at Oldfields School should be a global thinker who will help to shape the future direction of the technology department by assessing the needs of the School and developing objectives that support the Oldfields mission. This position acts as the main point of contact for all technology equipment, projects, and information system needs.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities

Manage and oversee the School’s network, hardware and software

Manage and maintain all network equipment across campus, including: switches, router, firewall, content filtering, and wireless access points

Troubleshoot and repair network computers, printers, copiers, etc.; with main focus on servers, firewall and network equipment

Create, monitor, and maintain security and virus policies for the entire network

Establish, manage and project Technology budget needs – for the Department and School

Play a major role in negotiating the terms of all contracts for hardware, services, and licensing with vendors

Procure all hardware, software, and computer supplies for the school and develop the necessary standards, policies, and procedures for each

Maintain current inventory of School-wide hardware and software; ensure software and service contracts on said equipment is properly licensed and licensing records maintained

Maintain and administer the phone and voicemail systems and all associated records

Oversee the functioning of and the staff that maintains the school-wide phone system; as well as the school cellular phones and all phone wiring within the campus

Administer user network accounts and provide technical support for administrators, faculty, staff, and students

Develop all standards, policies, and procedures for students and faculty use of technology, including the Oldfields Technology Acceptable Use Policy

Communicate with parents, and the Oldfields community in the area of technology: including the Acceptable Use Policy, laptop requirements, device service issues, etc.

Must be able to work occasionally during off-peak hours (late days, holidays, breaks, etc.) to assist with network updates

On-Call for emergencies dealing with network outages and power outages
Education and Experience

Extensive working knowledge of computer hardware, software, peripherals, and related technologies

Experience troubleshooting and using Windows, Mac OS, and Windows Server operating systems

Experience managing technology infrastructures including networking equipment and firewalls

Experience with enterprise backup, anti-virus, patch-management, desktop deployment and policy strategies

Familiarity and experience with LDAP, DNS, Active Directory, POP, TCP/IP, HTTP

Strong knowledge of security and networking best practices

Knowledge of wireless networks implementation, configuration and security

Experience managing a staff and allocating duties/tasks

Experience managing a significant amount of funds and resources

Experience working in an education environment with an ability to explain technical jargon to general audiences is preferred
