Job Summary
The director of educational technology reports to the middle school director. They are responsible for all curricular issues relating to technology at the school and assist the faculty in integrating appropriate and innovative technologies to support, enhance, and extend learning. They collaborate closely with the IT department to ensure timely resolution of tech support issues, software updates, and device maintenance. The director of educational technology collaborates with division directors and the lower school science and technology educator.
Teaching responsibilities include: middle school digital essentials, a technology elective, and an enrichment class. In addition, the director of educational technology supervises the middle school math and science teachers including evaluation and supporting curricular development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program evaluation
- Evaluate and reset our technology program to educate students with digital literacy skills and digital citizenship while balancing a healthy relationship with technology as critical consumers and producers
- Research and evaluate new and emerging educational technologies.
Faculty technology proficiency
- Evaluate educational technology use across K-8 to ensure consistency and coordination.
- Determine a baseline of technology skills for faculty and implement teacher training and implementation, including on-boarding new faculty.
- Establish systems for educators to access, preview, or receive training in hardware usage and software applications.
Education technology
- Collaborate with teachers, educational leaders, the LS science and technology teacher and the IT team on specific needs and growth opportunities.
- Support and oversee the deployment and integration of age-/grade-appropriate, best-practices in educational technology applications across the school.
- Remain current with educational technological knowledge and skill through networking, membership in technology associations, and pursuing professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with the IT department to ensure timely resolution of tech support issues, software updates, and device maintenance.
Teaching responsibilities
- Develop and teach a digital essentials scope and sequence (grades 5-8) including technology skills and digital citizenship.
- Develop and teach technology electives in the middle school, including coding.
- Once per week, teach a lower school after-school technology class.
Supervisor duties
- Evaluate math and science teachers through regular observations, goal-setting, weekly meetings, and feedback related to teacher instruction and student learning.
- Oversee the development and implementation of math and science curriculum.
- Make recommendations to the middle school director regarding hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty.
Additional duties
- Collaborate with the division directors on spending of government funds for technology.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the head of school and division directors.
Requirements
- MA degree in education or a related field
- Three or more years experience working in the field of education and technology; including experience working with pre-adolescent and adolescent students.
- Leadership and supervision experience.
- Significant training and a strong interest in diversity, equity, and belonging work.
