Database Manager & Analyst
Summary
Packer is seeking a Database Manager and Analyst to administer and manage the School’s database systems (e.g. Senior Systems Advantage, Blackbaud’s Raisers Edge, SQL server, MySQL, FileMaker Pro and others) and maintain data integrity, quality, and accuracy in and across systems. This role will work closely with various operational units, the Technology Department and other constituents to ensure users are utilizing our database systems to their fullest capabilities and to advance the school’s strategic plan. The Database Manager will provide training and direct technical support to users, as needed, helping them to understand how to best enter, manage and use data as a tool for making informed decisions. This role is also responsible for the development and maintenance of custom reporting formats and provides data collection, analysis and charting support for the annual Head of School’s Comprehensive Report.
This full-time, twelve-month position reports to the Director of Technology.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement best practices for data which empower users to best leverage data in the service of student learning, efficient school operations and targeted, accurate communications
Learn, understand and assess existing data management processes across various departments and divisions within the school in order to support and improve them
Administer and monitor data integrations to ensure accurate and efficient communication of data between various databases
Establish data protocols and provide training for departments to ensure data integrity and data security and to facilitate the integration between data systems
Generate and assist in the analytical development of financial and statistical reports (including the annual Comprehensive Report), mailing information, and other necessary information for the Business Office, Development Office, board meetings, Head of School, Division Offices, etc.
Ensure the integrity of Packer’s school information system (Senior Systems Advantage), which serves as the “database of record” for business, academic and family contact data
Define standard queries and exports for various departments within the school to ensure consistent reporting and tracking of metrics.
Develop data dashboards for key operational units
Manage end-to-end projects and tasks within those projects to ensure timely completion within resource constraints and the meeting of project requirements
Stay abreast of new system features, upgrades and fixes and coordinate testing of them
Support database users with matters such as data integration, updates, imports, batch changes, queries, exports and related issues; serve as initial troubleshooter when needed
Provide help-desk support to for parent user accounts and online database access

Technical Skills
Comprehensive understanding of relational database theory, management systems and understanding of business process workflow.
Application of best practices to database design, data maintenance and security.
Extensive experience administering and managing databases such as Senior System’s Advantage, Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge; Microsoft SQL, MySQL and Filemaker Pro
Knowledge of Finalsite CMS or similar platform
Experience integrating existing systems with new systems to create efficient, scalable, resilient data environments
Experience performing advanced database administration skills, including SQL query building and scripting with the ability to create stored procedures and functions a plus.
Ability to create and manage scripts and data import/export routines to automate synchronization of information between applications via their APIs
Knowledge of MS SQL Server performance tuning and server monitoring utilities
Proficiency with Crystal Reports and the development of custom database reports
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word & Excel)
Understanding of web-based data collection
Experience web programming with PHP, Perl, or other language is a plus
Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills

Requirements
Training in systems analysis/design and/or management, with a minimum of five years of database management or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years database administration experience with Oracle, SQL and MySQL
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Data Systems from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
Experience with Senior Systems Advantage, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, Filemaker Pro applications and Finalsite CMS highly desirable.
Experience scripting integrations between database APIs
Ability to lift 30 lbs., climb stairs, crawl under desks as needed to install/move computers
Experience in a school setting preferred
