Information/Education Technology Manager
The John Thomas Dye School, an independent K-6 school located in Los Angeles, is currently seeking a full-time Information/Education Technology Manager. JOB SUMMARY: Ensure that the IT Department meets both the educational needs of the faculty & students and the operational needs of the School. The Information/Education Technology Manager is a thought leader with the School’s instructional technology team while also managing the network and technology infrastructure for the entire School. This position supervises non-academic technology staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instructional Program Support
- Develop, review, and share instructional technology best practices while maintaining alignment with the mission and vision of the school to support the needs of the classroom
- Effectively use and provide support for educational technology devices, tools, applications, and resources used by K-6 faculty
- Lead faculty training and development to aid technology integration in a classroom setting
- Share current best practices in education technology
- Provide comprehensive onboarding for all academic and school software platforms
- Collaborate with the DTL to make strategic and operational decisions.
- Evaluate instructional technology tools
- Proactively identify and implement technology solutions that support the educational and operational needs of the School
- Provide 1:1 coaching, modeling, co-teaching, and small group training to assist faculty with utilization and understanding of new technology
- Commit to continual professional development to stay abreast of new educational technologies
- Develop and maintain technology policy documents including acceptable use, device management/replacement plan, software resource documents
- Experience with Google Workspace and Apple Teacher preferred
- Manage the configuration, setup, and deployment of faculty and student devices and accounts
Technology Support
- Manage Help Desk service
- Supervise Technology Assistant and Tier 1 employee and student technology support requests
- Respond to parent and remote learning support requests
- Serve as the point person for tech support for schoolwide databases, including but not limited to, SchoolPass, Blackbaud
- Manage Tier 2 and Tier 3 technology needs
- Manage backup, disaster and recovery plan; ensuring systems are properly maintained and backed up
- Create, implement, and maintain network and device security in accordance with best practices and industry standards; managing password protocols, anti-virus software, network and systems access
- When necessary, partner with external technology consultants to manage tier 2 and 3 needs
Device & Equipment Management
- Maintains campus technology inventory logs
- Manage MDM software e.g., Mosyle
- Configure technology devices: setup new equipment, update existing equipment, and decommission old equipment
- Lead the purchase and acquisition of new technology and equipment by consulting with appropriate stakeholders
- Provides campus A/V set-up for events, assemblies and presentations (may include after hours or weekend events)
- Responsible for maintaining all school technology equipment including, but not limited to student and employee technology devices, network hardware, printers, copiers, radios, telephones, displays, audio/visual equipment
Administration
- Collaborate with the DFO and DTL on annual technology budgeting process
- Manage the device refresh cycle
- Software application administration: Google, Microsoft, Password resets, etc.
- Renew software/hardware licensing
- Support the Academic Systems Administrator with implementation, administration, and troubleshooting of the School’s academic systems
Professional Development & Training
- Assist with employee technology training as requested
- Engage in professional development opportunities to remain current with best practices in IT
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or computer technology certification or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years in a technology support position
- Previous experience in an education institution preferred
- Experience designing and delivering engaging technology training for staff
- Proficiency with technology functions: Microsoft Windows, Apple OS and iOS and applications available for both operating systems
- Prior experience supporting IT operations, including: hardware deployment, imaging, backup, recovery, device management, printing, network, and security
- Experience managing and administering Apple School Manager, Office365, and Google Workspace accounts
- Previous experience administering and troubleshooting VoIP and video surveillance technologies preferred
- Familiarity with various school software programs and technology systems: Blackbaud, SchoolDude, School Pass, Mosyle, Zoom, Telephone System, etc.
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential verbal, written, printed and electronic information secure and private at all times
- Has strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines
- Ability to lift and carry (up to 25 lbs.) and move computers and peripherals around campus
- Applies critical thinking skills to problem-solve and resolve issues and/or make recommendations
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, on the telephone and with email to faculty, staff, vendors, parents, guests, visitors, etc.
- Patience, humor, and outstanding customer service skills
