POSITION TITLE: Lower School Academic Technologist
DEPARTMENT: Lower School
REPORTS TO: Head of Lower School and Director of Educational Technology
TERM: 10-month, Exempt
POSITION PURPOSE: Charlotte Country Day School seeks a visionary academic technologist to begin in August of 2022. The academic technologist is responsible for teaching students in JK-4th using an integrated approach that fosters innovation, as well as supporting teachers with professional development and sustained implementation of a project-based learning approach. This involves working with our other Lower School Academic Technologist to design an innovative, standalone curriculum, and working with faculty to develop and further implement a shared, transdisciplinary vision. The Lower School Academic Technologist will work closely with classroom teachers, the other Lower School Academic Technologist, special area teachers, the Director of Educational Technology, and the Lower School administrative team to implement the shared vision/missions of the school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

In partnership with the other Lower School Academic Technologist, design and teach an innovative curriculum, incorporating problem-based learning, design thinking, and authentic experiences that allow students to demonstrate complexity of thinking and learning.

Model and teach meaningful integration of web applications and other tools within the curriculum

Support the effective, meaningful, and purposeful methodologies of project-based learning into the classroom and school programs through collaboration with individual teachers, grade levels, departments, divisions, academic technologists, and Director of Educational Technology

A knowledge of and ability to effectively teach coding, engineering, and robotics skills

Provide expertise and support for robotics in the Lower School both in the curriculum and through co-curricular experiences

Collaborate with Lower School homeroom and special area teachers in the execution and design of STEAM and problem-based learning initiatives

Design, coordinate and deliver technology-related faculty professional development content through one-on-one, self-study, student groups, presentations, and workshops

Provide ongoing training and support on school systems and learning platforms such as Veracross, Seesaw, and Google Classroom.

Design, plan and deliver technology orientation to new faculty

Engage in continuous professional development to deepen content and pedagogical knowledge and skills in technology integration

Work closely with Lower School faculty members to teach and support digital citizenship efforts
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s Preferred) with significant coursework and/or experience working with elementary aged students in STEAM disciplines

The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and contribute to the school community outside the classroom.

Excellent written and oral communication schools to facilitate effective communication with faculty, students, and school families

A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning environment, and to grow and learn from others

An instructional and pioneering leader with the proven ability to connect and create opportunities and possibilities for program growth, new initiatives, and ideas

A holistic view of students and the variety of identities, perspectives, and unique needs they bring to the classroom
