STEM Teacher at Purnell School

The new member of the STEM Department at Purnell School reports directly to STEM Division Chair and is responsible for academic and residential duties that include, but are not limited to:

? Teaching classes from Algebra I to PreCalculus and/or Chemistry, Physics, and
Science Electives.
? Teaching technology courses and offering technology based clubs and activities.
? Providing 1:1 math support for students who opt into the Math Support program.
? Plan and implement studentcentered lessons.
? Create engaging lessons that develop student critical thinking and problem solving skills.
? Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students
and parents well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback, and weekly assessments.
? Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for growth and success of all students.
? Communicate regularly with students’ advisors and parents.

Qualifications:
? An undergraduate degree in Math, Science, Technology or related field.
? Experience with students with learning differences and the accommodations and
modifications needed to support them.
? Excellent organizational skills.
? Effective communication skills with students, faculty, parents, and school districts.

Highly Desirable:

? A graduate degree in Math, Science, Technology, Special Education, or related field.
? Training and experience with Orton Gillingham or similar program.

Daily Responsibilities:

Teachers at the Purnell School are responsible for teaching or supervising five of the eight class periods over the two day A/B class schedule. They may be asked to coach a sport, live in the dormitory as a hall parent, and/or propose and supervise an activity. They will be required to work approximately 10 weekends throughout the school year as residential supervision and a trip chaperone. In addition, they will have 25
advisees and be expected to maintain close communication with the parents of their advisees. Three meals a day are provided, but faculty are expected to attend breakfast, lunch, and three dinners per week.
