The Jewish Community High School of the Bay, a pluralistic, college-preparatory independent school providing an outstanding educational experience to boys and girls in grades 9-12, seeks a director of technology to start in June of 2015.

JCHS uses technology in robust and significant ways, including a student-owned cross-platform laptop program. Tech tools currently used at the school include Whipple Hill, inResonance, Schoology, and Google Apps. The school is in the process of moving email and calendaring from Microsoft Exchange to Google Apps.

Job Summary
The director of technology oversees and maintains a strong infrastructure, while developing a culture of collegial exploration of the best uses of technology for student learning. As described below, this person will partner with the assistant head of school to develop both the uses of technology and the education of our students around technology issues. What are the ways technology can best support learning? What technology skills and understandings do our students need to graduate high school having learned? These are the kinds of questions we seek to explore. Additionally, this person works with the director of finance and operations and the assistant head of school to allocate the IT budget to the school’s best use and maintain all systems and networks. The director of technology supervises the senior IT specialist, a full-time position, and reports to the director of finance and operations and the assistant head of School.

Responsibilities
Drive the ongoing development and evolution of the school’s technology vision and implementation in collaboration with the leadership team and other relevant personnel.
Lead a technology committee to support the development and monitoring of the school’s vision for technology and its current implementation.
Work with the education leadership team to support technology integration in the academic program
Develop and deliver digital literacy curriculum in partnership with the school counselor, librarian, and director of educational support.
Maintain the school's robust system infrastructure.
Ensure that systems support the safe use of technology by the student body and other members of the community.
Participate in development of innovative teaching & learning spaces, including STEM and EverLab.
Manage the school’s technology budget in coordination with the director of finance and operations and the assistant head of school.
Oversee research, purchasing, tracking and implementation of necessary IT hardware and software, and manage outside consulting and vendor relationships.
Manage the work of the senior IT specialist.
Support and nurture the JCHS professional community’s uses of technology through tech-oriented professional development and by arranging and/or offering technology-related workshops and training.
Stay current with changing resources in educational technology and network administration and participate in professional education groups or programs in the area of curriculum and technology integration.
Communicate and develop parent education resources.
Support the school and its leadership and complete other duties as assigned by the director of finance and operations and/or assistant head of school.

Qualifications
Five to seven years’ experience in education environments with significant experience with technology team management and systems. Experience with integration of technology in academic programs and curricula.
Ability and experience to monitor and proactively assess, evaluate, and manage all hardware and software systems and overall network design and to develop initiatives and manage projects that align technical strategy, design, and implementation both to generally accepted networking best practices and to the academic mission and objectives of the school.
Experience developing policies and procedures in alignment with academic objectives and overall school vision, including but not limited to appropriate/acceptable use of computers, mobile devices, BYOD, 1:1, Internet, and security.
Experience and facility managing Windows networks, including but not limited to Windows servers and workstations, Active Directory, manage/administer Google Apps for Education. Working knowledge of Macintosh computers, wifi technologies, and mobile operating systems (iOS, Android, etc.) also required.
Strong working knowledge of security protocols and best practices in order to design and maintain systems that backup and protect the integrity of critical school data. This includes but is not limited to: backup systems; firewalls, web filters, antivirus and other peripheral security systems; security policies, both written and in Active Directory.
Effective decision-making skills, including the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects concurrently.
Experience managing IT personnel.
Excellent communication and collaborative skills, including the ability to listen effectively, to elicit information from users, and to convey technology content to users of varying tech abilities.
Demonstrated commitment to a cycle of reflection, assessment, and improvement.
Demonstrated commitment and skill in the building of strong partnerships with colleagues to support their ideas and initiative. Openness to exploring new ideas.
