MakerSpace Teacher
Chesterfield Day School seeks an educator to join the faculty for the 2015-2016 school year as a part-time MakerSpace teacher with room to grow.

Our engaging and rigorous approach to preparing students is implemented by a collaborative team of subject area specialist teachers in Art, Music, PE, Spanish, Library, and MakerSpace. CDS offers a student-teacher ratio of no more than 12:1 in order to allow the faculty to be truly personalized in their approach.
We seek an energetic and intelligent MakerSpace teacher to work with our Kindergarten through Sixth grade students. This role is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who values curriculum design, the maker movement, hands on learning and understands the importance of a personalized and engaging curriculum for elementary aged children. Working with a team of teachers and our Director of Academics and Student Services, this teacher will design his/her classroom environment and program to create a program that allows for creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. The program will be authentic and meaningful and build character in our students.
Chesterfield Day School has strong commitment to fundamental academic skills and also a long history of enhancing and enriching our program in many ways. We create opportunities for students not found elsewhere whether that be through Project Based Learning, personalized education, STEM, or Montessori.
Specific responsibilities associated with this position include:
Delivering a personalized learning experience
Designing innovative, dynamic experiences for students of all ages
Making our MakerSpace a leader in the St. Louis community
Utilizing technologies and hands on tools to provide students with opportunities to iterate, collaborate, take a give feedback, and present their creations to audiences.
The ideal candidate will:
Enjoy spending time with 5-12 year olds
Be flexible, visionary and hard-working
Have strong communication skills with parents and children
Demonstrate understanding of the educational and social development of children in this age-group
Exhibit a passion for developing, implementing and improving curricula that is informed by best practice and experience
Have knowledge of or demonstrable aptitude to learn Maker technology tools (Littlebits, Arduino, Scratch, Sphero, Thymio, Squishy Circuits…)
Have knowledge or demonstrable willingness to use diverse materials to create like wood, cardboard, styrofoam, paper mache, metal, programming, etc…
Understand that the role of the MakerSpace teacher will be as a facilitator and champion for learning, and the ability to be comfortable not having all the answers. Interested in utilizing online sources like YouTube, Khan Academy, Pinterest and Twitter to connect students to passionate, knowledgeable people worldwide.
