Network Manager

Position Summary:  The Network Manager is a 12-month position responsible for managing systems and servers related to the school LAN for the purpose of optimizing throughput, securing data, overseeing backup and recovery capabilities and ensuring availability and reliability of services to all personnel and students. As a crucial member of the Technology Department, the Network Manager will report to the Director of Information and Instructional Technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage systems and servers related to campus LAN, including but not limited to security, IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, filtering, proxies, backups, etc.
• Responsible for the management and configuration of network users and resources, including AD/GAFE accounts, file services and network printing
• Monitor network performance; maintain Juniper network switches and Extreme (Aerohive) access points
• Ensure network filtering and security via Palo Alto firewall
• Manage the school’s SAN, HP Nimble
• Responsible for VMWare virtual environment and associated hosts and guest server VMs
• Maintain SSL certificates and related identity systems, i.e.: AD, LDAP, ADFS
• Adhere to PCI compliance recommendations and network design
• Assist in providing technical expertise on the design, layout, and maintenance of The Haverford Schools’ telecommunication and camera security network
• Assess network for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer and network operations and collaborate with Director of Information and Instructional Technology on purchases in support of network
• Develop long- and short-range plans for the design, installation, and maintenance of network equipment, policies and practices for the purpose of meeting the distributed processing technology needs of the campus
• Develop, document, and maintain a systems recovery and disaster management plan
• Maintain inventory of campus network hardware. Maintain network planning records, network design diagrams of wiring, security, updated warranties, etc.
• Following best practice guidelines, backup data and restore as required. Regularly conduct recovery capability tests.
• Monitor the usage of the network computer equipment to ensure user compliance with the school’s policies including the RUP (Responsible Use Policy)
• Install computer equipment, network (client and server) software and hardware on a variety of platforms (e.g., service packs, application software, operating software, hardware upgrades, etc.) for the purpose of upgrading and maintaining equipment and software
• Respond to network related problems assigned by Help Desk System
• Maintain expertise in computer technology. Be knowledgeable about technology trends in schools and universities. 
• Acquire as needed any training or certifications associated with the maintenance of current data, communications and learning technologies.
• Possesses an understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion and the implementation of those principles at independent school
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Information and Instructional Technology

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
• 3 – 5 years network management experience in an educational setting
• Proven ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Sense of humor, enthusiastic and happy, high ethical professional standards, and multi-cultural perspective

Desired Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems, MAC OS X, AD administration, LDAP administration, group policy management, DNS, DHCP, Google Apps, Back-up systems (Symantec Backup Exec, cloud backup), Security and anti-virus software (SentinelOne), firewall appliances (Palo Alto), Remote access, VPN implementations, PC and MAC imaging tools, print services, and troubleshooting resources.
• Ability to troubleshoot user, network and operating systems problems 
• Ability to design, configure, trouble shoot and maintain enterprise scalable LAN, WLAN, and VLAN.  Knowledge of Extreme (Aerohive) APs and Juniper switches.
• Analyze existing procedures and develop improvements for optimum use of technologies.
• Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Ability to articulate technical information to non-technical audiences. Ability to interact with users and vendors in a professional, cooperative, and courteous manner.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
• Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment
