Loomis Chaffee has imminent plans to open a state-of-the art iLab: a multifaceted, cross-disciplinary, technologically advanced space that will encourage innovation, collaboration, project-based learning, tinkering, and other STEM/STEAM related initiatives, both within the confines of the current curriculum and outside of it. Specifically, the Loomis Chaffee iLab will be designed for a makerspace, robotics, computer science, classrooms, and a media lobby. The Loomis Chaffee School seeks an enthusiastic individual to serve as the school’s first Director of Innovation to encourage innovation and to lead the development of this space and its programmatic reach across campus. This is a full-time, ten-month faculty position that reports to the Dean of Academic Affairs.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Oversee the development and programming of this space as it relates to the following:

Innovation, Design Thinking, STEM/STEAM Initiatives, Collaboration, Tinkering, Robotics, Statistics/Data Mining/Pattern Recognition, Information Technology, Project-based Learning, Engineering/Architecture; Computer Science;

• Serve as a campus resource for students and faculty seeking greater opportunities, both curricularly and extracurricularly, in the above areas;

• Oversee the supervision of this space;

• Collaborate with faculty and peers from other institutions to ensure ongoing innovation and relevance;

• Teach one or two classes (and possibly more during the 2016-2017 year).

• Help lead the school’s efforts to implement an i-Term, a two- or three-week period of time during the school year when we abandon the traditional daily schedule and move toward intensive educational experiences, both on campus and off, that are experiential or project-based in nature.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Extensive experience with innovation and technology in an educational setting;

• A positive attitude and clear enthusiasm for working with adolescents in a residential setting;

• An excellent work ethic and strong communications skills;

• A master’s degree or PhD in related field.
