Technology Integrationist and Makerspace Faculty
Fenn seeks candidates for a full-time position working in our new makerspace and helping Fenn’s faculty integrate technology into their curriculum as part of Fenn’s 1-1 iPad program in grades 6-9 (Fenn also has a de facto 1-1 program with school-owned iPads in grades 4 and 5).
Successful candidates will have a strong background in classroom teaching at the middle school level, experience with the principles of design thinking, and a passion for working with faculty to figure out creative, thoughtful and appropriate uses for academic technology. Personal qualities such as curiosity, perseverance, flexibility, versatility, and resilience are desirable as is a willingness to tackle new challenges with an open mind and to work collaboratively with students and faculty alike.
Primary responsibilities include the ability to
Collaborate with classroom teachers on technology projects and design thinking integration.
Design, coordinate, and provide technology and design thinking professional development for faculty on a planned basis and a “just in time” basis.
Act as a guide and coach for all faculty, encouraging, inspiring, and supporting them in the exploration of innovative and purposeful uses of technology, design thinking practices and our makerspace.
Work closely with the school’s key stakeholders in fostering an environment of independent use of technology in all areas of the school.
Enthusiastically champion successes of students and faculty in their achievements with technology and the integration of design thinking and making across all grades and subjects.
In addition to a bachelor’s degree in a related field, a minimum of three years teaching experience, and strong organizational skills, the successful applicant will also have the following:
In regard to design thinking and the makerspace:
Knowledge of design thinking and project-based learning (PBL) principles and experience applying these principles to teaching and learning.
Experience designing activities makerspace activities which promote a design thinking approach.
Familiarity with using and maintaining the equipment typically found in a makerspace including 3D printers, vinyl cutters, and laser cutters.
Strong computer programming/coding experience, specifically including Scratch and Lego EV3 programming language.
A high comfort level with Lego robotics engineering.
In regard to technology integration:
Experience in a 1-to-1 school device program, preferably with iPads.
Experience with the Google suite of applications on iOS, OS X and Windows devices.
Experience speaking in public, especially with fellow educators and greater school community.
Experience creating and conducting professional development opportunities.
Willingness to research, learn and share new technologies with students and faculty.
