Position: Network Administrator

Reports to: Kim McCormack, Director of Technology

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Salary Range:$60,000 - $85,000

Network Administrator POSITION PURPOSE:

The Network Administrator under the direction of the Director of Technology designs, supports, maintains, and evaluates computer networking and telecommunication systems; installs, configures, and maintains both physical and virtual computer servers; maintains faculty/staff/student network and e-mail infrastructure. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions of the position include:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of an Academic network environment including hardware/software support & training.
  • Ensures a high level of system availability including monitoring and remediation of system issues that might arise. This would include servers, networking, and Internet connectivity events.
  • Special projects planning, design, and implementation of both physical plant network and foundation software operating systems and application installation.
  • Assists in coordinating special projects including network-related wiring plans, LAN/WAN hardware/software purchases, system installation, backup, maintenance, and problem-solving.
  • Maintains LAN documentation including hardware/software applications, support logs, and other related information.
  • Monitor analyze, and troubleshoot network logs and track the nature and resolution of problems along with monitoring usage to ensure the security of data and access privileges.
  • Establishes and maintains user accounts, profiles, file sharing, access privileges, and security.
  • Monitor and ensure daily server backups are occurring at all times.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and consulting with vendors for hardware/software purchases, installation, product services, and support.
  • Plans, recommends, and assists in the design, installation, and support of telecommunications systems; troubleshoots and resolves telecommunications-related problems.
  • Creates systems and support by analyzing needs and projects; documenting and tracking
  • Create failover systems by crosstraining within technology and other departments
  • Supports the Technology Department during some weekend and evening events including but not limited to, Fall Family Weekend, Spring Family Weekend, Commencement, and Sunset Ceremony.

Training and Experience

Experience in all areas of local and wide area network management and administration including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, planning, designing, implementation, and user support; experience installing and supporting Microsoft server technologies; experience supporting telecommunications equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds, using proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or move around the applicable working environment as needed

  • Ability to read information in printed material, on a computer screen, and/or on a mobile device/laptop for extended periods of time
