Information Technology Services Internship
This internship is an entry level technical and customer service position for someone who has the desire to enter the Information Technology field. Basic computer skills are required as well as the desire to learn new skills. Under the supervision and direction of the IT Service team, the intern will perform duties such as installing software, attaching peripherals, moving new hardware to appropriate locations and performing setup and installation tasks. Completing routine and special project tasks for the IT team and supporting customers in the school community provides an opportunity to gain experience in many different areas of the IT field.
This is a three-month, 40-hour-a-week position from June 2016 through August 2016.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete basic support functions such as, but not limited to: password resets, creating incident tickets, installing hardware and software.
- Under general supervision, answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming telephone, voice mail, service tickets, and in-person requests for assistance from users experiencing problems with hardware, software, networking, and other computer-related technologies.
- Document and report issues presented to the IT Service Desk; accountability for “Level One” issues, and responsibility for escalation of “Level Two” issues.
- Setup and installation of computers and other electronic equipment.
- Clearly communicate technical solutions in a user-friendly, professional manner; provide basic one-on-one end-user training as needed.
- Inventory tasks for new equipment - such as asset tagging equipment, etc.
- Assist with equipment disposal process, including cataloging hardware to be sold or disposed.
- Assist with organizing IT equipment storage room and other IT resource rooms.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as needed and assigned.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively and build partnerships within a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of basic Windows and MAC operating system configurations and basic troubleshooting of common troubles.
- Intermediate level computer skills using Windows and Mac operating systems, specifically Microsoft Office and web browsers.
- Professional, friendly, and enthusiastic demeanor is expected.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
