Interim Upper School Academic Technologist
Landon School, an independent 3-12 boys’ school in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks an Interim Upper School Academic Technologist (US AT). This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of becoming[D1] a permanent position, to cover the current US AT’s leave of absence[D2] . This position will oversee the integration of technology and information-media into academic programs in the context of an initiative linking academic technology and library personnel. The role requires a general understanding of the curricular goals of every academic department in order to lead teachers in using technology resources effectively. A Bachelor’s degree with a focus in academic technology is preferred; however, candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with academic technology and teaching experience will be considered. The US AT will follow the academic calendar, with the expectation of reporting two weeks prior to the opening of school in the fall. This position will report to the Upper School Head, and will coordinate with the other divisional academic technologists, the director of academic technology, the divisional and head librarians, and the administrative technology team.
Successful candidates will also be expected to:
· Follow the guidelines set forth in the School’s Characteristics of Professional Excellence.
· Assist teachers in the development of technology and information-media competencies through the design and delivery of faculty professional development offerings aligned with these competencies.
· Work with librarians to develop and offer technology, Internet safety, digital citizenship, and information literacy skills orientations and training workshops for teachers, and teach similar grade-level appropriate classes to students.
· Seek out and work with individual teachers in the design of technology-rich lessons.
· Meet with teachers, department chairs, and librarians to plan and assess curriculum aligned with the Academic Technology and Library Integration Strategic Plan.
· Assist the faculty with their class portals and electronic grade books to ensure they meet the goal of 100% proficiency. (Experience with Finalsite’s LMS and Blackbaud’s FAWeb is a plus.)
· Maintain, encourage, and facilitate the use of maker tools such as 3D printers, laser cutter, robotics equipment, etc., with the students (e.g., technology club).
· Research educational software/hardware and explore and share new uses of technology for implementation.
· Support the Upper School’s BYOD program.
· Provide professional development resources and support to the school community through online sources, such as email, web pages, and blogs.
· Provide first-level technical support for computers, printers, software, LCD projectors, etc.
· Participate in the School community (special events, assemblies, proctoring and chaperoning duties, etc.) as assigned by the division head.
· Exhibit strong leadership and collaboration skills; excellent written, oral and listening communication skills; and excellent organizational, management, and execution skills.
