Echo Horizon School is seeking a Maker/STEAM Coordinator who will collaborate with the Director of Curriculum/Director of Technology to oversee the Maker Space and STEAM Space and support students, faculty, and staff in utilizing the spaces and materials, applying design thinking principles to support curriculum, and coordinating student-driven projects during inquiry and innovation time.

Echo Horizon School is a technology rich and highly collaborative environment. Technology is used throughout the school day and teachers work collaboratively in co-teaching grade level teams as well as in cross-grade level committees. We expect that the ideal candidate will be an innovative teacher who is passionate about student inquiry and supporting teachers in integrating design thinking, making, coding, and robotics into instruction, effective at communicating with adults and children, collaborative, organized, and motivated to learn about current and evolving practices.

Echo Horizon School is a private, PK-6th grade independent elementary school located in Culver City, CA. The school’s mission is to educate children in a collaborative environment that is academically challenging and developmentally appropriate and that promotes mutual respect, individual responsibility and ethical action. Full time exempt position

Responsibilities and Expectations:
•    Plan and teach Design Thinking and Maker/STEAM skills to students in PK-6.
•    Research evolving practices in school Maker/STEAM Spaces and collaborate with the Director of Curriculum/Director of Technology.
•    Develop and support new opportunities for Design Thinking, Making, Coding & Robotics to be integrated into the curriculum
•    Support/coach faculty in integrating Design Thinking, Making, Coding, and Robotics into existing curriculum
•    Support students in developing and implementing Inquiry and Innovation projects
•    Manage materials in Maker Space (grades 3-6) and STEAM Space (grades PK-2nd)
•    Develop policies and procedures for safe use of tools and materials in Maker & STEAM Spaces
•    Plan and teach activities in Maker Space and STEAM Space during recess, providing guidance and assistance in using Maker materials for creative expression
•    Work collegially and collaboratively with diverse faculty
•    Provide one-on-one training to users as needed.
•    Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:
•    Bachelors Degree
•    High proficiency with computer hardware and software in an Apple (Mac OSX & iOS) environment (Apple Productivity Suite, Google Apps for Education, Microsoft Office, TinkerCAD)
•    Knowledge and experience with Maker movement and motivation to learn more about Maker Spaces and practices
•    Understanding of and experience with Design Thinking
•    Experience with coding and robotics systems, microcontrollers, and software (Scratch, Lego Mindstorms, Hummingbird, Arduino, Makey Makey)
•    Experience with digital fabrication (3D printing and laser cutting)
•    Curiosity and ability to quickly learn new software and maker skills
•    Comfortable with a variety of hand and power tools, and can model safe and careful use.
•    Experience working with elementary-aged children
•    Experience developing and delivering curriculum
•    Classroom management skills necessary to ensure a safe, productive, and positive environment
•    Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team situation
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills
•    Excellent time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
•    Self-motivated and able to multi-task and effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment

Physical & Mental Requirements:
•    Standing and sitting for extended periods of time
•    Ability to write a range of professional documents (curriculum documents, step sheets for projects and use of materials)
•    Manual dexterity to operate a computer.
•    Manual dexterity to safely operate hand and power tools
•    Correctable vision and hearing.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to lift 40 pounds.
•    Ability to sit for prolonged periods in front of a computer.
•    Ability to work outdoors with no temperature control
