Assistive Technology Specialist
SALARY: $69,696 - $93,048
DUTIES: The assistive technology specialist performs the following duties:
Provides direct instruction in assistive technology to instruction to students in LEAs via short course & academy programs
Evaluates hardware and software to determine its relevance to the education of blind and low vision students
Assists with the set up and maintenance of assistive technology on the CSB campus
Performs assistive technology assessments for CSB students, CSB Assessment Center students, & for students with visual impairments in LEAs
Writes assistive technology reports & participates in IEP meetings when appropriate
Creates & develops assistive technology curriculum for dissemination and training of families and professionals
Provides technical assistance & training to students with visual impairments, teachers of students with visual impairments, related service professionals, and families
Works closely with the CSB Low Vision program to evaluate, recommend, and train on specialized devices and products
Works closely with the CSB O&M program to provide GPS instruction and training.
Provides on-going collaboration with CDE & LEAs regarding the assistive technology needs of students with visual impairments statewide
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.) Master’s Degree or higher
2.) Experience teaching in a mainstream education setting
3.) Experience performing assessments & writing reports
4.) Experience presenting workshops & conference presentations
5.) Specialized skills in blindness related assistive technology and extensive knowledge teaching technology
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.) Level II Education Specialist Instruction Credential, TVI or Clear Clinical Rehabilitation Services Credential, O&M
2.) Five years teaching experience with students with visual impairments
3.) Extensive knowledge teaching assistive technology
4.) Successfully passing CBEST
