Primary Purpose:

 

Administer, operate and maintain the District’s central administrative computer networks. Develop, maintain, and monitor all district local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN). Responsible for the installation, testing, and oversight of all network hardware, software, and related equipment throughout the District.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field
  • Prefer Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of LAN and WAN network design and installation
  • Knowledge of network hardware and software applications including network servers, printers, and other equipment
  • Ability to work with multiple operating systems and network protocols (i.e. Linux, Windows)
  • Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Two years’ experience performing information systems management preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Network Management

  • Identify and resolve network hardware and software problems.
  • Install and test network hardware, software, and upgrades.
  • Develop, implement and maintain routine preventative maintenance procedures on all network related hardware and software.
  • Implement and maintain all system configurations.
  • Coordinate and monitor system utilization for all network services and disk space; recommend improvements as needed.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and maintain all network equipment relating to the Wide-Area-Network and Local-Area-Network for all District locations.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and maintain all telecommunications equipment, voice services and telecommunications wiring at all District locations.
  • Oversee the development, installation and testing of images for all network based desktop and laptops.

Network Security

  • Develop and implement a district-wide security system for all network services including data, voice and wireless technologies.
  • Design, implement and maintain backup procedures to ensure that backup of all servers are performed on a regular basis.
  • Oversee backups and restore district data as needed.
  • Assist with development, implementation and maintenance of a disaster recovery plan.

Technical Support

  • Assist with the bidding process, purchase, distribution, maintenance, and installation of hardware, software, and other technological equipment and materials within instructional programs.
  • Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support.
  • Maintain network design and configuration documentation for all network hardware and services.
  • Provide assistance to all staff to identify and correct equipment and software related problems.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to all technical staff on any issue they are unable to resolve.

Student Growth and Development

  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Department to secure and maintain learner devices and resources.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Maintain data and systems to facilitate classroom management district-wide.

Communication

  • Monitor technical research and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals as outlined in the strategic plan
  • Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents and educators

Professional Growth and Development

  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to district personnel in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of effective technology throughout the district.
  • Provides assistance in the development and implementation of a comprehensive staff development plan for the use of technology.
  • Supports staff development to teachers and administrators in methods involving technology in the delivery of curriculum.

Other

  • Identify and recommend the acquisition of new services, software and hardware to meet the needs of the District and devise a plan for sustainability and replacement.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
  • Oversee the inventory of all hardware and software and make recommendations as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct oversight of all technical staff (Network Engineers, Systems Engineers, Systems Integration Analysts, Technology Support Manager and Technology Support Specialists).
  • Evaluate the ongoing performance of all technical staff members (Network Engineers, Systems Engineers, System Integration Analysts, Technology Support Manager and Technology Support Specialists) to ensure effectiveness and assist the Executive Director of Technology with bi-annual reviews of each technical staff member.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Technology with the development of training options and improvement plans for all technical staff (Network Engineers, Systems Engineers, Systems Integration Analysts, Technology Support Manager and Technology Support Specialists).
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of personnel and make recommendations relative to placement, assignment, discipline and dismissal.

Equipment Used:

  • Network switches, desktops, laptops, tablets, servers, printers, UPS, peripherals, small hand tools, test equipment.
