Job Summary

Promotes the use of technology based resources in learning and teaching and provides consultation, instruction, and assistance to faculty, students, and staff related to the editing, design, production, and instructional technology of curriculum development.

Responsibilities

1.Develops technology based courses, including evaluating design and delivery techniques, developing visual aids, and considering media and technology selections.

2.Ensures all courses are based on best practices in instructional design and technology and copyright issues to insure effective participation in Distance Education efforts.

3.Acquires copyright permission through the Copyright Clearinghouse Center or rights holders as needed.

4.Provides instructional design training when applicable.

5.Researches new technologies, innovations, and production practices and evaluates the potential value to the organization.

6.Edits material for print-based courses and electronic content for online courses.

7.Establishes and maintains project management protocols for course development and production.

8.Creates cooperative working relationships with Faculty, departments, schools, and other persons or entities involved in the development of Distance Education courses.

9.Develops and implements evaluation techniques to measure appropriateness and effectiveness of course content, materials, teaching activities, and technologies.

10.Coordinates with other members of the Distance Education Development team and assists when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology or related field, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). 2-4 years experience in instructional technology, preferably in an online education environment required. Knowledge of learning theory with the ability to apply the theory into practice; excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office, andDVDAuthoring tools; strong editing skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.

Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.

Preferences

A minimum of two years of online curriculum design experience is preferred. Experience with Articulate Storyline development software. Project management and team leadership experience. Experience working with a variety of noncredit community students, including non and post-traditional students, professionals, youth, etc. as well as for-credit students. Experience working with Instructure Canvas Learning Management Systems. Familiar with building online courses in asynchronous and synchronous format for a variety of audiences (adult, professional, international, youth, etc. students).
