Network Specialist
The Network Specialist is responsible for managing and monitoring network systems of the School. This role is critical to the overall function of the organization by ensuring integrity and uptime of mission critical systems. As a team member of the Technology Department this position requires flexibility, initiative, great attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to work in an environment with adults and children
Administrative
- Coordinate with and support the Technology Director with future strategy for network to assure full implementation of the technology plan
- Research and implement current systems trends and solutions
- Assist the Technology Director in planning the technology annual budget to include hardware and software upgrades and maintenance for systems, administrative and academic computers
- Test and deploy administrative and academic networked software
Network & Infrastructure
- Manage IT Projects coordinating with Network Consultants as needed
- Coordinate adds, moves and changes of network port and phone cabling
- Maintain, support, and monitor Internet security and web filter (Barracuda)
- Maintain physical and virtual workstation connectivity
- Maintain Print Servers and network printer connectivity (adds, moves and changes)
Servers
- Manage Microsoft Active Directory including DHCP and IP configurations
- Manage the school’s internal network ensuring uptime and integrity of all file servers and network service hardware (firewall, routers, hubs) and network software
- Manage and maintain the integrity of the Ruckus wireless network
- Manage and support network software applications such as Sophos, Citrix XenServer
- Build, deploy and manage virtual servers and desktops
- Maintain integrity of Microsoft 0365 email archive
- License, provision and manage user accounts and groups in Microsoft 365 cloud services
- Maintain integrity of current system by performing daily visual check every morning to review logs, updates, status and performance of servers and network devices, in addition to ongoing monitoring
- Document system audits in OneNote Notebook of server and device status, performance and updates
- Maintain and support network video/door security monitoring system and server
- Manage automatic updates to servers and workstations (Windows and Sophos)
- Install current patches and updates to server and workstation software
- Support individual workstations for optimal performance
- Support online systems as needed such as Alexandria, the library catalog system
Support
- Maintain servers and workstations for optimal performance
- Maintain network printers (Adds, moves and changes)
- Assist with Helpdesk Support
- Maintain Network Specialist Policy and Procedures Manual in OneNote Notebook documenting configuration, and protocols and procedures of systems managed, including complete and current documentation of Network IP assignments and system passwords
- Educate and train technology staff on network security, set up, troubleshooting, and management procedures
- Train and support technology team on current trends in network security and infrastructure
- Troubleshoot servers, software, hubs, and network interface cards, workstations, printers, and cables
- Troubleshoot system and desktop software
- Install and support all administrative and educational applications
- Provide immediate response and ultimately responsible for troubleshooting network errors
- Collaborate with technology team on technical issues
Experience working with the following technologies are a plus
- Virtualized server environment, especially Citrix and Hyper-V
- Office 365 and Azure Domain
- Network storage (SAN, NAS, RAID, LUN, Volumes, Pools iSCSI, SAS)
- Online/offline storage for backups
- Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and Microsoft Intune
- Microsoft Print Server, HP Printers and UniFlow Print Management tools
- Network monitoring software such as Netwrix
- Apple O/S and iPads in a networked environment
Work requirements include
- Essential skills needed for this job include the ability to proactively identify and prioritize projects and manage time wisely
- Ability to prioritize projects ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, climb ladders and work in overhead and/or tight spaces
- Ability to work nights and weekends as required for IT projects (from time to time)
Personal Growth
- Maintain current knowledge of Microsoft Server, Windows, Microsoft 365, Apple O/S
- Troubleshooting knowledge of Citrix, NetApp, and Linux O/S
- Maintain current certifications: A+, Network+
- Attend professional seminars, conventions, training and read technical journals.
- Create and maintain professional contacts within the computer industry
Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required
- Bachelor Degree preferred
- 3 years’ experience with system software and other current related technologies.
- Ability to make independent decisions along with maintaining the confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information
- Strong references to convey your professional abilities
- Successful completion of all required HR requirements including: background checks, Completion of Virtus: Protecting God's Children training, and, current CPR certification
