Job Description:
We are looking for an instructional designer that deeply understands customer service. We need an energetic "people" person who has a proven track record using instructional design to create and deliver clever, effective training - both online and in person.
Help Center Support: We need full time support of our amazing ASU Help Center. We have 120 staff and student workers who pick up the phone and answer questions about technology problems, financial aid, where the English building is and what time the next football game starts! These talented people need training when they join the Help Center and periodically throughout the year as new software and systems are brought onto campus. The ideal candidate will divide their time as needed between reporting and recording requirements, delivering training, and developing new training as required. The training portion of the position will consist of teaching our help Center agents about customer service, how to answer the phone the ASU way, how to use the Help Center software to manage people's questions and how to find the answers to callers' questions. There is a continuing need to update and create training materials and online documentation to support the functioning of the help Center, as well as deliver in-person training to agents, as needed.
Essential Duties:
- Design, develop, deliver and evaluate online and in-person course content, materials, interactive and multimedia technology-driven components, and other support materials consistent with established design and development processes to ensure flexibility and reusability
- Edit guides and other instructional materials for grammar, clarity, consistency and accuracy of content
- Track and report completed training for ASU Help Center employees and work with the Quality Control team to determine training gaps and establish timeline for refresher training
- Develop and/or maintain online web-based resources such as tutorials, reference material, content resources, and tools for instructional development
- Provide training to the Help Center agents as requested by Help Center management
- Apply adult learning theory with instructional design methodology
- Remain abreast of technology directions, initiatives and trends within scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance and recommendations
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Educational Technology or a related field AND three years experience providing educational technology development services; OR, Master's degree in Educational Technology or a related field AND one year of experience in providing educational technology development services; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design techniques and models
- Experience in a Help Center environment
- Experience creating online, self-paced instructional material
- Experience presenting workshops of a technical nature to employees
- Experience tracking completed training, creating a database of training completed for all employees and establishing annual refresher training and new training guidelines and priorities
- Experience with a learning management system. Recent experience with Blackboard Learn 9.2 a plus
- Experience with any of these software packages: Salesforce, ServiceNow, lnContact, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office, Google Documents
- Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
Working Environment:
- Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
- Deliver in-person workshops ranging from 1 - 4 hours daily, as needed.
- Use office equipment including a laptop computer.
- Lift objects of varying weights up to 20 pounds.
- Communicate to perform essential duties.
- Receive regular review of completed tasks.
