SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is matching technology to user’s needs, training users, IT project management, and system administration.  This position is responsible for analyzing user’s interaction with technology and developing IT solutions to help the College operate more efficiently.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list includes, but is not limited to the following:

System administration

  • Acquire, configure, and maintain production Macintosh server.
  • Design, implement and maintain a consistent backup and recovery plan.
  • Maintain Macintosh Self-Servicing account.
  • Maintain server security and monitor system performance.
  • Coordinate campus Macintosh software configuration and implementation.
  • Create and maintain software imaging services for Macintosh systems.
  • Active Directory account operations administration.
  • Cisco Call Manager, Unity, and Telepresence operations administration.
  • Exchange and Office 365 account operations administration.
  • XMedius administration.
  • Alertus administration.
  • Research, recommend, and coordinate automated approaches for system administration tasks within IT.

End user training.

  • Map out training plans, design, develop and deliver training programs.
  • Choose appropriate training methods per program.
  • Design and prepare educational aids and materials.
  • Assess instructional effectiveness and summarize evaluation reports determine the impact of training on employee skills.
  • Provide train-the-trainer sessions for internal subject matter experts.
  • Manage and maintain in-house training facilities and equipment.
  • Use accepted education principles and track new training methods and techniques.
  • Conduct organization wide needs assessment and identity skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.

Project management

  • Run complex projects/programs from design and development to production.
  • Define requirements and plan project lifecycle deployment.
  • Define resources and schedule for project/program implementation.
  • Create strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Plan and schedule project deliverable, goals, milestones.
  • Efficiently identify and solve project issues.

Other duties

  • Research and test appropriate software packages and solutions for installation on campus computers.
  • Analyze and assess customer technology needs to develop effective and appropriate solutions.
  • Provide analysis and coordination for network port and cable placement in locations throughout campus.
  • Maintain a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and work relationship with supervisor, college staff, students, and the community.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience                  

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience to include training development, project management, and an extensive technical background.  Technical certifications preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expert ability to analyze personal computers including laptops, wireless devices, and associated peripheral devices; including software that relates to and drives these devices
  • Expert, current technical knowledge of computers and associated peripheral devices
  • Expert skills with current version of Microsoft Windows and Macintosh platforms; Microsoft Office; Internet and email applications; and multi-line phone system 
  • Proficient IT project management knowledge and skills
  • Proficient ability to use relational databases, including those specific to the College, as well as web design and management software 
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent logic and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to acquire skills related to campus specific databases, new equipment and related applications 
  • Ability to effectively train others in systems use
  • Ability to effectively document IT processes
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including phone, fax, copier

The employee is occasionally required to kneel, twist, and use hand/eye coordination.  In the course of this job some hand tools and medium equipment, including cars, vans and golf carts, are used.  The employee must frequently lift and carry up to 15 pounds and occasionally push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds, sometimes with assistance or the use of devices and equipment to assist in lifting.  This job involves occasional exposure to low voltage electricity, extreme temperatures, work outdoors, inclement weather, dust, loud noises, dim lighting, work in confined spaces and infrequent exposure to chemicals and/or fumes. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
