The Instructional Assistant is responsible for assisting with digital learning and reports to the Digital Learning Coordinator and the principal.

Duties and responsibilities:

-- The IA maintains and operates the instructional computer carts at the school, and also performs other tasks as needed to aid in the ongoing support of teachers and students using technology. Typical tasks include supporting faculty in the classroom, stocking printers with paper and toner, updating devices, and checking audiovisual equipment externally/internally.

-- Provides assistance during computer instruction as needed.

-- Ensures computer equipment is working properly throughout the school.

-- Provides timely (within 24 hours) resolution of computer problems by providing answers or referrals.

-- Installs new licensed software.

-- Performs “housekeeping” functions in the classroom (e.g., keeping computers clean and free of dust).

-- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

General knowledge of computers and related technologies.

General knowledge of software packages utilized.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WHILE THIS POSITION REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTER SKILLS, OF EQUAL IMPORTANCE IS AN INTEREST IN WORKING WITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN IN AN EDUCATIONAL SETTING, AS WELL AS PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN WORKING WITH CHILDREN.

Must be able to:

-- communicate with both children and adults to determine the nature of problems, including users who may not be adept at clarifying problem situations

-- assist teachers and administration in the use of hardware and software

-- establish and maintain effective working relationships

-- solve most minor technology problems

-- teach computer skills to students effectively and with patience

Suggested training and experience:

College graduate with classes OR experience in computing and information technology.

Experience in education or in working with children a must.

The position is ideally suited to an individual wishing to gain classroom-setting experience in an energetic, creative school.
