Duties:

The Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology (OTLT), under the auspices of the University Chief Information Officer (CIO) and as part of OneIT, is a campus-wide provider of technology and pedagogy supports for faculty and instructors. The OTLT is seeking to fill a full-time position in its Enterprise Instructional Technology group.

The IT Support/Senior IT Support Consultant functions under the Director for the OTLT Enterprise Instructional Technology group. This position will include working in collaboration with other OTLT staff members supporting enterprise instructional technologies such as learning management systems (LMS), electronic portfolios, student response systems, wiki, lecture capture, digital media solutions, video conferencing and other large-scale instructional technology implementations. The position includes leading and managing projects and services.

This position may also include working on online and blended learning environments and working closely with our LMS team.  The Senior IT Support Consultant position may include supervising project and service team members.

This permanent, full-time Professional & Scientific position will be filled as either an IT Support Consultant (PIC2) or Sr. IT Support Consultant (PIC3), based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Annual Salary Range:  IT Support Consultant (PIC2):  $45,000 - Commensurate
                                 Sr. IT Support Consultant (PIC3):  $48,546 – Commensurate

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform support and service management for educational technologies including learning management system, lecture capture, student response systems, plagiarism detection, electronic portfolios, placement exams, faculty evaluations, exam scoring, peer-review for writing, digital media solutions, wiki, and other tools.
  • Work on cross-functional, cross-departmental teams to ensure efficiencies with software deployment and implementation.
  • Independently test new software and hardware versions and configurations. Provide feedback regarding compatibility, performance, and effectiveness and strategy for upgrading to new versions.
  • Provide broad and advanced support to a variety of complex hardware and software issues as assigned. Investigate and evaluate complex hardware and software issues.  Some 24x7 on-call support is required.
  • Evaluate and recommend strategic software and hardware solutions for enterprise instructional tools.
  • Create and provide basic and complex training to small and large groups of constituents. Provide training to peer faculty and staff.
  • Lead the development of service-level documentation. Maintain existing service-level documentation. Assist with the development of knowledge base.
  • Represent ITS by participating in campus IT communities as assigned.
Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of education and related experience in instructional support may also serve to meet these minimum requirements.

Experience Required:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS for the IT Support Consultant (PIC2):

  • Experience, (typically 1-3 years) providing technical support in an information technology environment.
  • Experience supporting educational technology
  • Basic experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Basic experience providing customer service to technology users of varying abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; the ability to explain computing concepts to non-technical staff
  • A proven track-record of initiating, managing, and completing technology projects.
  • Experience creating and presenting training sessions for instructional technology applications within one-on-one, small group, and large-scale training sessions
  • Proven record of technical curiosity and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS for the Sr. IT Support Consultant (PIC3) include those listed above demonstrated at the Extensive Proficiency level and in addition:

  • Experience, (typically 3-5 years) providing technical support in an information technology environment.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams, services, and projects.
  • Experience supporting and leading educational technology
  • Advanced experience providing customer service to technology users of varying abilities
  • Experience leading instructional technology projects
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting technology in a higher educational setting
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues impacting academic technology in higher education
  • Experience updating online content via a content management solution
  • Experience with course management systems (such as Desire2Learn, Canvas, Moodle, Sakai, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (or equivalent web, photo and image editing software)
  • Experience evaluating new and emerging technologies and their potential applications specific to teaching and learning
  • Experience leading instructional technology projects
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Computer Science, Library Science or other related degrees in instructional support
