STEM Integration & Technology Support Specialist
Mount Saint Mary Academy, an all-girls independent high school located in Watchung, NJ, is seeking a highly motivated technology support specialist with experience in designing and supporting STEM programs. This unique position combines traditional technology support skills with the support of STEM based program activities such as 3D design and printing, Arduino, coding, breadboarding, electronics, etc. The position also works with all faculty and staff helping to integrate new and existing technologies into their curriculum and job duties.
JOB SUMMARY:
The position of STEM Integration & Technology Support Specialist is a full year position with 2 distinct paths. During the school year, the STEM ITSS works directly with faculty and students providing instructional and hardware support for all STEM based classes and initiatives. This includes team teaching in classes as well as assisting in after school clubs. The STEM ITSS is an integral member of the Technology department and will also assist the department in day to day support of our 1 to 1 laptop program and will back up other department members as needed. However, the majority of the work is STEM based education planning and delivery to high school students. Candidates must have STEM experience.
During the summer months, the position reverts to a full-time technology support position, assisting the other department members with imaging and profiling the over 500 student and staff laptops, as well as other summer technology maintenance projects.
Throughout the year, the STEM ITSS will work on technology integration projects as assigned to them by the Director of Technology.
The ideal candidate shall possess:
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Office 365 for Education
- Experience working with STEM Education programs
- Experience using student information systems and/or learning management systems
- Previous experience in education as either a teacher, integrator, or technology support
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly advancing and changing industry and a willingness to research and experiment with new technologies
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documentation
- Ability to find an answer when it is not immediately obvious
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience teaching and integrating the Engineering Design Process where appropriate
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings – either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means
- Mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; successful candidates must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasks while keeping up with day to day responsibilities
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Advanced knowledge of installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of computer hardware, software, and network systems
- Skill in determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes
- Skills and abilities to perform as an organized, self-starter, and able to handle expeditiously, accurately, and confidentially the rapid receipt of communications from all sources.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would be required to move around frequently, within hallways, classrooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
- There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
- The use of hand tools and small power tools will occur on a regular basis
- An employee may lift and/or move up to 15 pounds on a routine basis and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-100 pounds with assistance. Assisted lift technique is required for all lifts over 50 pounds.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Information Technology, Educational Technology or related field (or equivalent experience).
- A criminal background check is required
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are highly desired:
- Previous experience working in education environment with faculty and students.
- Previous experience in STEM related activities.
- Previous experience working in a customer support position within a technology department.
