Overview:

The Director of the Innovation Lab is a leader in Design Thinking and STEAM education who is ready to join the school during an exciting time, as the school is designing and building an innovation lab to open next fall. The new space will be designed for STEAM-oriented learning through making, tinkering, engineering, design, and integration of art. This vision for this space will be shaped by the Director, and will be accessible to students during the school day, as well as for after-school learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for growing the school's Innovation Lab as a programmatic hub for project-based learning in STEAM fields, as well as designing a comprehensive program that inspires students as they grow to be creative thinkers and learners. The Director will develop and teach a sequence of design/engineering/art or related courses, support faculty member’s efforts to integrate design thinking and project based learning principles into their curricula, and consult with colleagues in all disciplines to create interdisciplinary STEAM curriculum threads across the lower and middle schools.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Innovation Lab:

  • Oversee all aspects of the Innovation Lab. This includes developing a vision around curriculum, equipment, and professional development. The director will work to partner with internal and external resources to promote and support the program.

 Teaching and Curriculum Development:

  • Develop and teach a sequence of courses in the area of making, tinkering, engineering, art, and/or design.
  • Coordinate making, tinkering, engineering, and design curriculum development and education in both the lower and middle school.
  • Work to integrate art into the engineering and design process.
  • Create a framework for offering middle and lower school courses, units, or interdisciplinary projects that incorporate design, computer science, and engineering concepts.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and minimum of three years of teaching experience required; Innovation Lab/Makerspace experience preferred. Creative technologies and physical computing experience preferred.
