Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Director, the Associate Director directs, administers, and coordinates all aspects of the department’s technical services staff, projects, and infrastructure. At the time of hiring the Associate Director will also server as the manager of the UCSS Technical Services group. The Associate Director will also assist the Director with the day to day activities of the department.

  • Supervisory Responsibility
    • Manage and mentor a dedicated team of System Administrators to ensure stable operation of the organization's IT infrastructure
  • Project Management
    • Provide technical leadership and management of IT projects from conception through deployment
    • Establish project budgets, resource plans, milestones, tracking metrics, and success measures
    • Organize project status meetings on regular basis
    • Monitor workloads, help set priorities, and provide mentoring for staff members
    • Ensure effective and timely resolution to incidents and requests by team
    • Serve as UCSS primary liaison with IMN, EAS, and Facilities Planning for IT matters
    • Monitor project execution to ensure on-time delivery
  • Infrastructure Management/Planning
    • Serve as primary point of contact concerning the operation of the
      university’s data centers and cloud infrastructure
    • Conduct Capacity Planning as necessary to ensure efficient continued operation of the university’s IT infrastructure
    • Establish or update processes and standards incorporating best practices and standards to ensure effective and efficient delivery of IT services
    • Develop strategic plans for the enhancement and upgrade of infrastructure to support the university's overall technology posture
    • Participate in architecture reviews and/or audits
    • Define and maintain documentation of infrastructure and technology standards, processes and policies related to core infrastructure
  • Departmental Management/Planning
    • Assist in developing and implementing plans and goals for the department
    • Assist in business re-engineering efforts and recommend new technologies to meet business demands
    • Work with the director to coordinate and supervise daily operations
    • Contribute to discussions on implementation of IT strategy and implement objectives, as appropriate
    • Assist in budgeting and monitoring expenses
    • Represent the department when needed

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or suitable combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience within information technology and a minimum of five (5) of those years in higher education
  • Experience managing information technology teams
  • Experience planning, executing, and supporting information technology projects
