Technology and Design Teacher
Description
The Technology and Design Teacher helps elementary and middle-school aged students develop skills in design thinking, problem solving, engineering, and fabrication in Fay’s Innovation Lab, a 3,000 square foot facility that includes a design studio, maker space, fabrication room, and wood shop. The Technology and Design Teacher collaborates with colleagues in academic departments and divisions throughout the School to develop and implement projects that complement and enrich their curricula. He or she also teaches Digital Literacy courses to students in grades 3 through 6. This position reports to the Director of Innovation. It is a full-time position and is eligible for benefits. Campus housing may be available.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial or product design, science, math, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of three years’ teaching experience is required, preferably in an independent middle school. Teacher certification is not required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing materials and lessons using a variety of teaching strategies
- Utilizing academic technology to enhance instruction, both within the Innovation Lab and in collaboration with colleagues in multiple departments and divisions
- Acquiring a sound knowledge of Fay’s core curriculum and maintaining Fay’s standards of academic excellence
- Assessing students’ performance and issuing academic grades, effort grades, and comments
- Communicating effectively with parents
- Acting as an advisor for a group of students in grades seven through nine
- Coaching or leading other afternoon student activities for two terms
- Performing duties to support the School’s residential life program.
- Participating in parent conferences, team meetings, and major school events as required
