Lower School Academic Technologist

Reports to: Director of Academic Technology

Position Summary: The Lovett School, an independent K-12 day school in Atlanta, GA, seeks a Lower School (LS) Academic Technology teacher to begin in August 2018. The LS Academic Technologist (Faculty Support Coordinator & Instructor) is responsible both for working with faculty and staff to support student learning and for teaching Lower School K-5 inGen classes. This involves partnering with faculty to make the best use of technology to enhance teaching and learning; exploring new technologies that can support student learning; supporting faculty and student use of learning technologies through professional development; teaching classes in computational thinking and the design thinking process; and modeling and teaching meaningful integration of web applications and other tools within the curriculum. The Faculty Support Coordinator will work closely with the LS librarians and Academic Technologists in other divisions to ensure the alignment of digital literacy skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

• In partnership with the other Lower School Academic Technologist, design and teach an innovative curriculum, incorporating problem-based learning, design thinking, and authentic experiences that allow students to demonstrate complexity of thinking and learning. The person in this position bears primary responsibility for designing and teaching curriculum related to coding.
• Research and disseminate information about best practices, applications, emerging technologies, professional development opportunities, and faculty use of technology.
• Design, coordinate, and deliver technology-related faculty professional development content through one-on-ones, self-study, study groups, presentations, and workshops.
• Provide ongoing training and support on school systems such as LMS, Google Apps for Education, and future adoptions for all faculty.
• Support the effective, meaningful, and purposeful integration of technology, including robotics, into the classroom and school programs through collaboration with individual teachers, grade levels, departments, team leaders, divisions, and academic technologists.
• Design, plan, and deliver technology orientation to new faculty.
• Support director of academic technology in managing the lower school technology budget, software, and subscriptions.
• Manage lower school hardware devices (i.e. laptop carts, iPads, 3D Printers, etc.)
• Analyze user needs, evaluate systems, and recommend purchases of new equipment and software.
• Engage in continuous professional development to deepen content and pedagogical knowledge and skills in technology integration.
• Attend admission open house and participate in Saturday admission observations throughout the spring semester.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Lower School principal or other administrator.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with significant coursework and/or classroom experience in developing curriculum that includes principles of computational thinking and that integrates technology
• The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
• Employment of a variety of techniques, including the meaningful use of technology, to engage students and further their critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity
• A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer
• Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals
• Purposefully design curriculum, instruction, and assessment in order to reach a diverse community of learners (academically, culturally, racially, religiously, etc.)
• Commitment to developing one’s own cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence
• Ethical behavior, professionalism, and regular and reliable attendance
