Math and Makerspace Coordinator
Cascades Academy is seeking an experienced Middle School (grades 6 - 8) Math Teacher and PK-12 Makerspace Coordinator.
Opened in the fall of 2017, the school’s makerspace is called the IDEA Lab which stands for innovation, design, engineering, and art. In this space, students are encouraged to create, change their minds, fail, and recreate, learning not only tangible skills, but also the resiliency to iterate and adapt. Students have the opportunity to work in areas such as 3D design and modeling, drones, programming, robotics, and woodworking.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree is required, Master's degree is preferred
- 3-5 years experience teaching middle school math
- A passion for teaching math and STEAM related content
- Computer science, engineering or other tech related knowledge and skills
- A passion for teaching in a creative, integrated, and innovative way
- Ability to work collaboratively with other middle school teachers
- A commitment to experiential learning and outdoor education
- A demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning
- A desire to be part of a vibrant, “all-in” community of students, families, and faculty/staff
Responsibilities:
General responsibilities include curriculum development, classroom instruction, assessment, communication with parents, and general engagement with the entire school. Specific duties will include:
- Teaching two sections of middle school math
- Teaching core IDEA Lab courses and electives courses to students in grades 6-8
- Partnering with PK-5 classroom teachers to integrate the IDEA Lab learning into PK-5 Storyline curriculum
Compensation: This is a salaried, full-time, benefits-eligible position. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s background and experience and will be competitive with similar NWAIS schools.
Reports to: Middle School Head
