STEM Librarian
Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking a STEM Librarian. This is a full-time 12-month library faculty position that reports to the Associate Dean for Library Systems & Emerging Technology. The STEM Librarian will serve the university’s on-campus and online populations which include: 1) College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA); 2) University College (UC) STEM programs; and 3) College of Online and Continuing Education (COCE) STEM programs. The STEM Librarian will be a liaison to CETA and relevant programs, and a member of the library’s faculty team. This individual will develop and deliver innovative library services that facilitate the curricular and research needs of students and faculty in STEM disciplines across the University.
This position requires the ability to support diverse fields of STEM including engineering, computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, architecture, construction, mathematics, biology, environmental science, and general sciences. The STEM Librarian will also be a dynamic member of the Library’s Innovation Lab and Makerspace. By providing access to a wide range of equipment, software, and tools, the Innovation Lab and Makerspace supports course curriculum and the SNHU community in exploring new technologies, learning new skills, and developing innovation.
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
- Developing flexible outreach initiatives that support the diverse SNHU community in the STEM disciplines
- Developing innovative support for new University initiatives and projects, such as Competency Based Education (CBE), particularly as it relates to STEM
- Providing information literacy instruction and supporting curriculum development
- Engaging with faculty to utilize the Innovation Lab & Makerspace to facilitate unique projects in support of course learning outcomes
- Providing research assistance through innovative means including creating online learning objects
- Collaboratively identifying and acquiring resources in support of STEM
- Performing faculty responsibilities including: serving on university committees, professional development, and scholarship
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. from an American Library Association accredited institution or foreign equivalent
- At least two years of academic library experience working with STEM faculty and students, or equivalent experience
- Knowledge and expertise using current resources and library services in STEM disciplines
- Knowledge of information literacy and experience with instructional techniques
- Knowledge of bibliometric and other tools related to scholarly communications in the STEM disciplines
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to be adaptable and forward thinking
- Demonstrated experience with diverse cultures, histories, and methodologies and a willingness to explore alternative approaches to pedagogy, scholarship and research
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM discipline
Work Hours:
Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with some evening/weekend hours required in support of library and university needs
