Information Technology Manager
Job Summary |
As a manager and senior professional, this position provides technical support services to Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences faculty, students, and staff in the form of server administration, developing new and adhering to already existing security protocol, direct consulting, departmental computing advising, skills instruction and training development, documentation development and delivery, management of departmental IT resources and IT project assessment and management. Competent to consult, train, and document computing systems, applications, and IT services as used in teaching, learning, research, and administration. Works with little supervision in developing plans and delivering services in alignment with University Information Technology Services (UITS) and College IT Office (CITO) policies, procedures and best practices in consultation with the Department’s IT Committee. Provides technical and professional management and leadership for departmental staff. Reports to the Chair of the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. May consult with College Research Infrastructure, CITO and/or UITS to effect computing resource strategies that meet teaching and research needs of Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences stakeholders while also improving compliance with university and college security standards. This position will require a working knowledge of research and high performance computing models and infrastructures, higher education institutional policies and practices, and project management in IT. |

Required Qualifications |
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or closely related field and three years of experience in providing computing support and leadership to users via direct consultation, development and delivery of computing education, writing user documentation, or conducting research and analysis of high performance computing needs. Experience in systems analysis as it relates to assessing departmental IT needs, high performance computing needs, and general IT project management. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Knowledge and skill in one or more of the following areas: desktop and workgroup hardware solutions; Microsoft, Apple, and Unix/Linux operating systems; applications used in business environments such as office suites and productivity tools; high-performance computing (HPC), application support, storage, and workflows; centralized computer management (SCCM/ConfigMan, desktop deployment for Windows, Apple and Unix); and Casper, Server administration (Windows and Apple); project management tools and methods; excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong sense of positive customer service interactions, direct supervision of full- and part-time IT staff, and the ability to easily coordinate projects and tasks with department staff and members of College Research Infrastructure and the CITO support team. |

Working Conditions / Physical Demands |
The manager must be capable of lifting heavy items such as printers and computers (usually not exceeding 50 pounds) in order to install, move, or repair equipment. Approximately 40-60 percent of the time, this individual will be sitting in front of a computer screen. |
