The Speyer Legacy School seeks a User Systems Support Specialist. This is a full-time position starting July 1, 2018.

The User Systems Support Specialist coordinates day-to-day support of laptop and desktop systems and software as well as Audio/Visual and printer systems. In this position, you will work with students in Kindergarten through 8th grade as well as adults, and while professional experience in an educational environment is not required, a gentle nature and comfort chatting with a child or stopping to help a child tie a shoe should be things that brighten your day.

You should know how to Google a problem that you need guidance in approaching. You should be able to say things like "I don't know, but I'll find out" and unafraid to ask "Hey, can you explain how that system works again?" You should have a long-term memory or an incredible organization system that mimics one. We hope you are flexible, self-starting, delighted by learning new things, a willingness to ask questions, a positive attitude, and a helpful nature. Ideally, we want someone motivated to learn and assume systems administration responsibilities. We offer professional development opportunities and mentorship for that endeavor.

Responsibilities
  • Help faculty, staff and students take on problems with school-issued software and hardware.
  • Coordinate device repair and loaner pool to ensure continuity of user experience
  • Administering student Chromebook deployment

  • Work with Faculty Macintosh laptop fleet, including learning the basics of the JAMF Pro software.

  • Support and solve problems with classroom Audio Visual hardware. Work with vendors who do installations, repair, and maintenance.
  • Manage event setups (Microphones, projected presentations) during the day and occasionally on evenings and weekends.
  • Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot handsets in small SIP telephone infrastructure.
  • Learning and troubleshooting institutional software and systems including Filemaker SIS, Schoology LMS and other specialized softwares. Opportunity to assume management.
  • Support the needs of the Technology Department and the School administration as is appropriate and necessary.
  • Learning and troubleshooting physical cable plant, wired network switches and wireless access points in a homogenous Meraki environment in collaboration with the network administrator.

Your basic job requirements will be:
  • An approachable, patient temperament
  • Self-motivation and comfort working independently or collaboratively
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to work on multiple projects and follow through tasks to completion
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including writing documentation and management of a help ticket workflow.
  • Interest in staying abreast of new technologies
  • Excitement at attending workshops and professional learning opportunities.

Ideally, you have:
  • A teacher’s disposition and love of young people.
  • Experience working in a school, camp, or other child-centered environment
  • Engagement in the evolving role of media and technology in education and society
  • The ability to work one-on-one to train users on software and hardware
  • A fearlessness of asking questions or researching when approaching a new problem
  • The ability to solve problems in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Discernment within defined procedures and practices.
  • The ability to re-frame problems to find solutions
  • A love of tinkering, making and doing
