The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Libraries seeks a dynamic and innovative leader for the newly created position of Associate Dean for Technology and Technical Services. The UAB Libraries organization was created in 2014 with the merger of the University's Mervyn H. Sterne Library and Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences under the leadership of an inaugural Dean of Libraries. As part of a collaborative and collegial leadership team, the Associate Dean will report directly to the Dean of Libraries and will have administrative responsibilities over the areas of library systems, technical services, and resource management as well as responsibility for the library's digital repository. The Associate Dean will be a member of the library faculty and will participate in administrative and strategic planning for the UAB Libraries as part of the Dean's Administrative Cabinet.

The Associate Dean will provide leadership for the development and implementation of digital strategies and innovations that align with strategic goals of the Libraries and the University; will provide leadership in the ongoing implementation of the Alma/Primo/Rosetta systems within the Libraries; and will help create an innovative vision for the future of the UAB Libraries. This individual will participate in a variety of departmental, campus, statewide, and national committees and professional organizations.

The ideal candidate will have: a strong public service orientation; initiative, flexibility and the ability to adapt and work creatively in a rapidly changing environment; the ability to work both independently and in a team environment; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and a commitment to excellence in library services, teamwork, diversity, and inclusion. A 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment with commensurate salary will be granted at a rank based upon the candidate's experience and background. Position open until filled. Applications received by June 8, 2018 are assured of receiving full consideration.
