The Madison College Technology Services department is now accepting applications for the Director – IT Administrative Applications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional skills and experience that will enable him or her to provide strong leadership and support in areas of System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), application architecture, design and development, collaborative relationship management and applications governance. 

The Director of Administrative Applications will have the opportunity to build on the dynamic momentum of the Technology Services area, including overseeing a committed and collaborative team and employing a strategic vision to the applications team. Most importantly, you will play a major part in influencing and maintaining the College’s mission, vision and values.

Organizational Function and Responsibilities:

This senior management position in the Technology Services Department has responsibility for architecture, design, and operation of the applications and services related to the Administrative functions (e.g., Student Services, HR, Finance, etc.) for the Madison College District. The ability to focus and function with an enterprise perspective and to advise technical staff, faculty, College management, and students is critical. This position is the subject matter expert for the applications management of the College. This position works very closely and collaboratively with the Academic Technology IT Support Services Director and other IT leaders in the Technology Services department. To be successful in this position, Applications Management (Architecture, Software Management, SDLC), Collaborative Relationship Management and Governance are necessary competencies.

This position reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Essential Duties:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive (see position description for more details). Other duties may be required and assigned by the President.

Applications Strategic Vision and Management Planning

  • Establish a strategic vision for applications and services for Madison College.
  • Lead and manage the planning, design, implementation and maintenance of the College’s Administrative Applications. 
  • Develop and maintain current an Application Life-Cycle Management (ALM). 

 

 

Customer Service

  • Participate in the development of and promote the TS Customer Service Engagement Model.
  • Provide consultation and advice to requesters/customers on emerging issues and developments.
  • Assess business/functional requirements of the College community in a structured form for evaluation. 

 

Application Governance

  • Support the development of appropriate governance models to better communicate, prioritize and manage applications in the College (e.g., Campus Community & Workday Governance Groups).

 

 

Team Building, Team Management and Collaboration

  • Develop team cohesion and collaboration skills within the Application team.
  • Promote effective and timely cross-functional/unit interaction necessary to get work done.
  • Assist in moving the TS environment towards increased agility, increased iterative and participatory design and increased self-service capabilities for the end-users.
  • Establish collaborative working relationships and increase communication with other units of TS as well as the College at-large.
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff to increase their effectiveness and grow within the organization.

 

 

Supervision

  • Manage a team of 20+ direct-report staff (FTE, LTE, Contractor or Students).
  • Establish plans, direct work duties and make assignments to both Team Leads and line staff.
  • Manage the resource and budget requirements of the Applications Team.

 

 

Lead/Own the Development of an Integrated Software/Systems Development Life-Cycle (SDLC)

  • Work collaboratively with the Project Management Office (PMO) and other TS units to establish a consistent SDLCaligned with the Project Management Life-Cycle (PMLC) and Change Management processes.
  • Implement Agile forms of the SDLC.
  • Assist in increasing the Systems Analysis skills of the TS workforce.

 

 

Application Architecture, Design, and Operation

  • Develop and preserve the application architecture for the District that is sound and flexible for growth.
  • Develop application specific and integrated roadmaps of current capabilities and future opportunities.
  • Work with other units to install, configure and manage necessary infrastructure (e.g., servers, load balancers, etc.)

  • Application design and Agile methods of Software/System Development Life-Cycle (SDLC).

Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to area of assignment (Computer Sciences, Information Systems, etc.) OR six years (12,000 hours) of an equivalent combination of education and work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing this position.

Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.

2. Ten (10) years of applications/software experience, including, but not limited to Enterprise Resource Planner (ERP) implementations and support, web-based/mobile applications and organizational productivity software suites. 

3. Three (3) years’ experience in supervising and development of staff in the above functions.

4. The following experience is highly preferred within the ten years’ experience:

  • 5+ years Application administration/management
  • 4+ years Application Governance management
  • 4+ years Systems/Business Analysis experience
  • 4+ years Databases
  • 4+ years Collaboration technologies management
  • 3+ years Security management
  • 3+ years Project Management experience
  • 3+ years’ experience in a higher education environment.
  • Excellent technical skills. Experience and knowledge supporting and maintaining:
    • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
    • Database Management Systems (DBMS)
    • Integrations platforms, such as, an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB)
    • Cloud-based hosted solutions
