The Digital Learning Catalyst is a K-8 faculty member who reports directly to the Head of Lower School/Asst. Head of School and regularly meets with the Lower School and Middle School Administrative Teams. This individual will support teachers in the design and implementation of innovative learning experiences that support innovation in instruction, student engagement and student achievement. This is a full-time, 10-month teaching and school support position.  

Primary Responsibilities:

Programming: Researches, reviews, and recommends best practice implementation of technology and digital learning skills development.

  • Serve as chair of the IT/Digital Learning Team and communicates regularly with the IT Director.
  • Assist in the selection and maintenance of appropriate digital resources for students and teachers.
  • Continuously review and update K-8 Technology Curriculum in accordance with ISTE Standards for Students and the School’s Technology Plan.

Faculty Support: Meets regularly with Lower School team leaders and Middle School departments and grade levels to determine the best learning strategies as they directly relate to teaching and learning in the classroom and the developmental needs of the students. Specifically:  

  • Plan for the connection between curricular areas and ISTE student standards.
  • Help teachers to seamlessly and effectively integrate technology and other innovative teaching strategies into their daily teaching practice in order to boost students’ digital learning skills.
  • Evaluate technology needs of the faculty based on collaborative feedback and observation and in light of ISTE teacher standards.
  • Design and facilitate effective professional development workshops and online opportunities for teachers.
  • Provide support and guidance (both formal and informal) to all faculty in the areas of instruction and technology.
  • Inform faculty of ethical and social issues surrounding privacy, copyright, and crime relating to educational technology.
  • Provide immediate troubleshooting assistance to teachers.

Students: Serve as a resource to students in the use of technology as it relates to teaching and learning in the classroom.  Specifically:

  • Assist teachers in the planning and teaching of technology lessons and, when appropriate, provide direct instruction of appropriate technology usage, including Google applications, web-based research, keyboarding skills, multimedia presentations and more.
  • Assist teachers in the integration of digital citizenship lessons that are aligned with the ISTE Standards for Students.
  • Plan for the accommodation of learning differences via the usage of appropriate technology tools, i.e. adaptive/assistive devices, audio recordings, etc.
  • Organize a team of students to provide a help desk.
  • Plan and facilitate opportunities for coding and robotics in K-5 classrooms.

Parents: Serve as a resource to parents in the use of technology, primarily in the school setting, and additionally at home. Specifically:  

  • Design and present parent engagement programs to support the teaching and learning of students and digital citizenship
  • Serve as a resource to parents concerning questions related to the technology usage of students at school and at home
  • Provide resources (links, lists of apps, etc.) to be communicated on our School website or teacher sites.

  • Participating in all phases of School life (classroom, chapel, service, community), modeling attentiveness and noticing in all surroundings
  • Sharing gifts and talents with the community through activities and leadership roles that go beyond the classroom
  • Helping to promote the School by welcoming prospective parents and visitors into the classroom in conjunction with the Admission office
  • Collaborating  and networking with other schools, organizations, technology specialists, and others who can help further promote the School’s effective use of technology as an instructional tool, and as a tool for supporting faculty and staff daily work.  

Other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Head of School.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Strong knowledge of current or emerging technologies, including computer programming and coding, and Google Applications
  • Familiarity with and commitment to the mission of independent schools and Trinity Episcopal School, and a commitment to our three primary values of scholarship, diversity and spirituality is a must.
  • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree is required, with a focus on education or educational technology preferred
  • Successful experience in working with children, preferably in a constructivist or progressive education environment
  • A willingness to go above and beyond in the best interests of students
  • Integrity, sound judgment, self-confidence, maturity and a sense of perspective
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, writing, organizational and communication skills, including basic technology competencies
  • Ability to be a self-starter and initiator, and ability to effectively work independently and be a  contributing team member
  • A high level of energy and ability to work on many tasks/projects; a strong work ethic
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students, faculty and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • A love for children and a willingness to go above and beyond in the best interests of students
