The Audio Visual and Auditorium Manager works autonomously and regularly exercises independent discretion and judgment over matters of significance to the Lycée.  The primary duties of the Audio Visual & Auditorium Director entail designing, implementing, and supervising the highest quality of events (student & professional shows, music, dance and theater performances, concerts, conferences & panels, movie projections, presentations,etc.) in the school's 350+ seat auditorium hosting the Lycée Français de New York Cultural Center, in collaboration with various stakeholders and with the support of the A/V assistant(s) and other staff when needed.

The Audio Visual and Auditorium Manager is also responsible for the ongoing management of the event-related A/V equipment (inventory, maintenance, repair and purchase), and the work schedule for the A/V assistant(s) and other staff. He/She develops a sustainable long-term plan for the auditorium and the A/V equipment, in order to maintain the highest quality standards of the auditorium performances.  

 

The Audio Visual and Auditorium Manager additionally serves as the lead administrative resource at the Lycée for students, faculty, staff and school partners for all A/V-related projects, leads the student A/V team and other staff, provides on-demand technical A/V training and assistance (while also preparing training and assistance materials, as needed), and must effectively address unexpected issues arising prior to and during events.  

 

Due to the variety and number of events, organized mostly when the school is in session, the job regularly entails extended daily work hours (e.g., 8am-10pm) from Monday to Friday, and more sporadically during weekends. Accordingly, the Audio Visual and Auditorium Manager must be able to work on a sometimes demanding and flexible schedule. He/She is classified as exempt and entitled to a fixed 6-week summer vacation time (July 4 - August 14), and 10 additional days off to be taken during the school breaks, absent extenuating circumstances (other benefits available).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with and assist directly internal and external event organizers to design, implement, and oversee creative and artistic A/V and stage setup solutions.
  • Maintain quality control over A/V equipment and operations.
  • Design and implement a sustainable development strategy and budget for the auditorium and A/V equipment.
  • Organize and manage the auditorium schedule and plan the work of the A/V technicians and other staff accordingly.
  • Direct, implement, and supervise all A/V related events (inside and outside the school facilities).
  • Train students staff members and part-time assistants in supporting events.
  • Direct and supervise the student A/V team and other staff.
  • Serve as the lead resource person for students, faculty and staff on A/V projects and corresponding event operations.
  • Facilitate, direct, and supervise the recording, broadcasting and live translation of specific events.
  • Solve unexpected technical and other complex problems relating to the lighting, sound, audio-visual and production equipment, as well as any other issue relating to A/V event operations.
  • Be and remain fully proficient and knowledgeable about all technical aspects of the auditorium, including the operation and direction of all lighting, sound, audio-visual and production equipment.
  • Maintain a proper, sufficient, and functioning inventory of all school A/V supplies and equipment at the Lycée, while proactively assessing the need for and undertaking the ordering of new equipment and the maintenance and repair of existing equipment, in coordination with the Director of Technology Operations, as needed.
  • Create, update, implement, and administer A/V policies and procedures, in coordination with the Director of Technology Operations, as needed.
  • Ensure a safe environment in the auditorium for all performances, directing and collaborating with the Security and Maintenance departments, as needed.
  • Ensure stage, off stage storage, catwalk, booth and scenery areas are safe, legally-compliant, clean, and orderly.

Qualifications and Skills
 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or 5+ years experience within the A/V event industry.
  • Experience in A/V system design and management, event production and integration, and high level of proficiency with A/V concepts and practical application.
  • Experience scheduling and supervising A/V technicians.

Skills/Abilities

  • French fluency preferred.
  • Ability to design and present new ideas how best to represent an event.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently on complex matters and to exercise sound discretion and judgment when performing job duties
  • Ability to work with a variety of constituents and to lead project-management and problem-solving tasks
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends.
