Responsibilities: The Dean of the Division of Business, Technology & Public Service provides leadership, management, and direction to assure a high-quality education for all students. Candidates must bring a capacity to effectively lead a highly diverse academic division that currently contains eight academic departments (Business; Criminal Justice; Education; Human Service; Paralegal/Legal Assisting; Construction Engineering Technology; Integrated Systems Engineering Technology; and Information and Emerging Technology), that provide broad career opportunities for graduates across the college’s entire service area. All eight departments employ internship, field experience and practicum requirements within the curricula. The Dean provides leadership for program growth, strategic planning, and student success initiatives; is responsible for assisting in all accreditations from state and national bodies and articulation with other institutions of higher education; is responsible for budget and cost-effective management within the division including support centers; provides leadership in dual enrollment courses; ensures assessment of a quality learning environment, faculty evaluations and professional development; and effective management of division faculty and staff. An important aspect of this position is developing and managing strategic grants at the local, state, and national levels; student work-based learning partnerships; and high level collaboration with universities, businesses, community organizations, and government entities. The Business, Technology & Public Service Division supports the mission of the College as well as the mission of the other academic divisions to support degree and certificate programs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 
 
Specific Duties:
  1. The Dean is required to lead special outreach initiatives, articulate a vision and promote the strategic direction for the division to the internal/external community; 

  2. Is accountable for institutional and program accreditations within and assuring full compliance is maintained; 

  3. Is accountable for division’s academic assessment, program review, strategic planning, and strategic scheduling processes within the Colleges policies and procedures; 

  4. Is accountable for comprehensive program/curriculum review and improvement. Responsible for design, planning, sequencing and evaluation of program curricula to facilitate maximal student success and retention; 

  5. In cooperation with the Vice President, the Dean investigates the need, and prepares applications for new programs. Establishes and monitors transfer and articulation agreements; 

  6. Provides the lead in the hiring of faculty for division assuring all credentialing requirements have been met and are maintained; 

  7. Approves travel requests and provides daily supervision to program chairs and division staff members;

  8. Conducts performance evaluations and develops improvement plans for academic chairs and division staff members; 

  9. Is accountable for division budget oversight and preparation for budget review hearings; 

  10. Submits action plans as part of the college’s planning process and consolidates division chairs’ assessment documents to prepare the annual Division Academic Assessment Executive Summary; 

  11. Through a shared governance process, recommends capital equipment acquisitions to the Vice President for Academic Affairs; 

  12. Works within an established process and is responsible for the overall review and submission of divisional catalog changes; 

  13. Oversees and develops articulations with area adult education, colleges and universities as applicable; 

  14. Maintains liaison and working relationship with the office of Student Affairs; 

  15. Evaluates special student requests such as request for change of major with grade point adjustment and grade appeal, according to established policy and procedures; 

  16. Assures the Division strategies for improving access, success, and completion are well aligned with the College and appropriately prioritized; 

  17. Manages student requests for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) for experiential credit, credit by examination and credit for non-academic learning. Responsible for coordinating, assigning and/or monitoring field experiences and independent studies as applicable; 

  18. Coordinates division activities and maintains all compliance standards associated with Ohio’s College Credit Plus in collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs; 

  19. Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Major Work Qualifications: Master’s degree required in a division discipline or related programs, doctoral degree preferred. Degrees in Engineering or Business preferred. Seven years administrative experience at the academic department chair, program coordinator, or academic director’s level in a two-year college system, and at least five years’ classroom teaching experience, or equivalent, at the two-year college level preferred. Must manifest leadership experience, previous management responsibilities, partnership development, grant management, and quality improvement experience. Must have an understanding of state systems and accreditation agencies. Requires evidence of continuous professional development. Proven ability to manage people and resources is a must as well as the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Must be versed in delivering instruction via alternative methods and in designing academic schedules to meet the needs of consumers. The Dean must bring an appreciation for shared governance, a collaborative spirit and the capability of ensuring quality; exhibit a positive demeanor, model professionalism, and have a commitment to diversity, social equity, and student access and success. An appreciation for and understanding of a two-year college mission is expected.
