Executive Associate Dean and Chief Information Officer

The Executive Associate Dean and Chief Information Officer will lead school-wide information systems, technologies, applications, and services necessary to meet the highest level of user expectations through a blend of technical expertise, administrative experience and strong communication and leadership skills. The EAD and CIO reports to the Dean of the IUSM and is a member of the Executive Leadership Team. In addition, an emphasis will be placed on strategic planning regarding academic computing functions and the alignment to academic needs and appropriate integration within the broader Indiana University IT organizations. As a member of the IUSM Leadership Team, the EAD and CIO will participate in, and contribute to, overall business strategy development, and will bring a current knowledge and future vision of leveraging information and technology to provide a competitive advantage for the academic health center. Through direct actions, communication, and partnership, the EAD and CIO will help shape, oversee, and promote IT services as a competitive differentiator that enhance the value of IUSM. It will be important for the EAD and CIO to establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external constituents, focusing on direct responsibility for academic IT needs while coordinating research and health IT with our partners. The EAD and CIO will also represent the academic health center in state and national health and academic IT-related organizations, initiatives, and policy creation.

Key Responsibilities: 
• Establish the strategic direction of information technology resources and lead services for the Indiana University School of Medicine.
• Serve as a member of the IUSM Executive Leadership Team. 
• Collaborate with the University Vice-President for IT/CIO, the Senior Vice President and CIO for IU Health, Regenstrief Institute CEO, and other key IT/Informatics leaders.
• Plan, develop, and implement a cohesive, collaborative, secure, and cost-effective information technology strategic plan and actionable roadmap for IUSM. Ensures this portfolio of work is integrated with the enterprise’s strategic planning process, and the resulting business strategies and plans.
• Serves on enterprise planning and policymaking committees; drives the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure IT delivers value to the enterprise.
• Establish and maintain appropriate IT security and stability for all computing and data systems, consistent with current and emerging federal government and other applicable requirements (e.g., HIPAA, FISMA, etc.).
• Participate in national IT organizations and represent IUSM in AHC IT-related initiatives and policy discussions.

Minimum experience requirement:
• At least 10 years in Senior/Executive IT leadership positions
• Considerable experience in the evaluation, development, and implementation of administrative systems and technologies
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience managing broad spectrum of analytic infrastructure and services including data management

Minimum degree requirement:
• A master’s degree and additional formal IT education/training/experience related to information systems/science including a recognized Board Certification (i.e. CHIME).

Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced degree related to academic health center missions, medicine or health related academics (M.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent) 
• Excellent relationship skills working with both clinical and basic science faculty
• Experience working in a research intensive university or health system, with an understanding of the clinical informatics needs of clinical and translational physicians and research scientists
