Arts and Science is seeking a dedicated LAN Administrator to join the Office of Computing and Information Technology. This individual will manage development, maintenance and support of FAS local area network and file servers and provide computer support to Humanities, Social Sciences, and School administration departments. Develop strategic networking plan and structure, anticipate user growth, migration and application development to support needs of departments. Develop network solutions to address present and future needs including testing of software and hardware to assess usability of advanced network solutions without risking stability. Supervise technical support staff. Analyze network hardware and software needs and recommend changes and upgrades to provide efficient service to all users.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree.

Required Experience:
2 years' relevant experience with installation, configuration, security administration and management of local area networks and wide area connectivity, providing technical support to users in a networked environment including troubleshooting and training, and staff supervision or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with NT Server and Netware 3.X, 4.X.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent verbal, analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience. Knowledge of a variety of current and emerging technologies including Windows OS, Mac OS, Linux OS, UNIX, Novell server, pc and Mac hardware, and MS Suite and Powerpoint software applications.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Certified Netware Engineer (CNE), Certified Netware Administrator (CNA) or Microsoft Certified Support Engineer (MCSE). Apache, Samba, IIS, NFS, FTP, and web-scripting languages preferred.
